I just realized that is one HELL of a telephoto lens used for that shot - Makes Whitehall Square and West Edmonton Village look like they're just a skip across the river. They are in fact 6.7 and 9.7 kilometres respectively from Rogers Place.

Drawing a straight line through all three, it looks like it was taken from the new Edgewater towers.

Point of interest: I learned that those lines on the roof of the wintergarden are needed to divert rainwater down the sides; otherwise in a heavy rainfall it would all run straight down and create a waterfall over the end and into the plaza. As much a neat sight as that would be, it would also be kinda not good.
 
I can envision visiting team skaters looking up to make sure this monster is adequately moored before stick handling under it. I think that this may be part of the Oilers new defensive strategy. Also, how demoralizing to see a replay of the goal scored against in such HD-large-scale quality. Nice move OEG!
