Our last construction update from YUL, a two-tower condominium development in Montreal, showed below-grade work progressing on the five-floor underground parking garage. In the four months since then, the project has hit ground level, reaching a significant milestone for developers Brivia Group and Tianco Group

Bearing a name derived from the code for Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, the 38-storey towers will shoot up from Boulevard René-Lévesque Ouest between Griffintown and the entertainment hub Quartier des Spectacles. Per renderings of the project, a 23,000-square-foot courtyard will border four-storey townhomes outfitted with their own private elevators.

In addition to pied-à-terre one-bedroom studios, the 800-unit development offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts ranging in size from 513 to 1,600 square feet. Limited edition penthouses on the 35th, 36th, and 37th floors feature exceptional 18-foot ceiling heights. Each unit in the building will include a glazed window wall facade that permits expansive views of the surrounding neighbourhood. The extensive list of amenities includes Montreal's longest indoor lap pool, a four-season spa with dry and wet sauna, a fitness centre, and a 38th floor sky lounge.

Designed by Menkes Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes, the two towers feature a stacked box typology of alternating balcony arrangements. The residential project is positioned just steps away from Holiday Inn Montreal, a new hotel that is also now under construction. With YUL scheduled for occupancy in 2017, there's plenty of time to watch both projects unfold as they fill gaps in the streetscape.
