On May 25, construction on Edmonton Tower celebrated a major milestone by holding a topping-off celebration on the roof of the 130-metre building in downtown Edmonton. City Ambassador Daveography was in attendance and captured the ceremony in photos.
Our last look at the tower featured its distinctive curved profile and clear curtain wall glass climbing the structure. Today’s ceremony was the public’s first look inside, including a glimpse at the LEED Gold certified tower’s large floorplates and high ceilings.
The City of Edmonton will be the largest tenant of the new building, consolidating 2,300 employees from various downtown buildings into 17 of the tower’s 27 floors. This includes the second floor, which will become a one-stop shop for citizens needing services from the city — from buying bus passes to paying property taxes to applying for permits.
Mayor Don Iveson and City Manager Linda Cochrane joined representatives from Katz Group Properties and WAM Development Group on the 25th floor to give speeches and answer questions for media and other guests.
Following the speeches and media scrum, guests were invited to the 27th floor roof to photograph a ceremonial final concrete pour.
No visit to the roof would be complete without a look at the rest of the ICE District, where construction continues on the 251-metre Stantec Tower, the 190-metre JW Marriott and The Legends Private Residences, and Rogers Place Arena.
At the end of the ceremony, guests were encouraged to leave their mark on a 'signing wall' on the 25th floor. Though the wall will be covered as the space is outfitted for its future tenants, the signatures will remain on the concrete wall in perpetuity.
Tenants will start moving into the tower in November 2016.
