Just one block away from Arquitectonica's Pierce Boston development, Skanska is making their mark in Fenway with a 17-storey project designed by Stantec. Unlike Pierce Boston and most other residential developments, the tower floors now being assembled at 1350 Boylston Street are made of steel instead of concrete. With its slender core soaring skywards, passersby are getting a glimpse of how the building will fit within the traditional built form of the neighbourhood.

Climbing to a height of 54 metres (178 feet), the 183,000-square-foot development will contain 212 rental apartments, approximately 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, and a 105-space underground parking garage. Skanska is hoping to attain LEED Gold certification on the project when it is officially delivered.

Steel for the four-storey podium, set to create a consistent and engaging street wall, is taking shape. The eastern section of the fourth floor will house loft-style apartments with private outdoor areas. Though there haven't been any signs of cladding installation just yet, the exterior will be articulated by textured precast concrete, glass window wall, and metal panels. The building's amenities package will be located on the fifth floor and is expected to host a fitness centre, common lounge, chef kitchen, and a roof deck facing Kilmarnock Street.

Previous plans for the southeast corner of Boylston and Kilmarnock Streets, which had been occupied by a Burger King and associated surface parking lot, would have seen a taller office tower built. The scheme was switched to residential in the face of community opposition, giving way to the plan now being realized.
