In the three months since our last update, progress has been moving along nicely at the site of 215 West Lake. The 33-storey apartment tower designed by Thomas Roszak Architecture has risen to new heights, and the tower's glass cladding is approaching the top of the structure. Built atop a three-storey parking garage and 5,000-square-foot ground floor retail space, the bulk of the tower can now be seen from many vantage points across the city, making the new development a fixture of the Chicago skyline.
Rising high above West Lake Street on a site made complicated by the existence of an adjacent "L" track, and the retention of the neighbourhood favourite Monk's Pub, which abuts the new development, 215 West Lake has been progressing well. The glass cladding reaches well above the halfway mark, and the tower itself should soon top off.
Moving up to the future site of the rooftop terrace, from which the bulk of the stepped-back residential tower will rise, it is immediately apparent just how much progress has been made in terms of cladding since our last update. Soon to be the site of a luxurious outdoor semi-private amenity space, the rooftop terrace will host a series of outdoor gardens and patios for all who reside in the building to enjoy.
Well situated within the Downtown Loop, with easy access to transit and the scenic Chicago River, 215 West Lake has already begun to blend into the surrounding cityscape. Viewed below from a vantage point at eye level with the rooftop of the adjacent Monk's Pub, the view through to the skyscrapers in the background reveals the extent to which 215 West Lake has already become a local fixture.
Once complete, 215 West Lake will bring approximately 400 new residents into the area, and the development's prime downtown location will likely be an easy sell for young urban professionals looking for a place close to work in the heart of the action.
