If PM Carney has any smarts at all, he will not appoint Freeland to any cabinet position that has even a whiff of finance, trade or foreign policy.

Or any cabinet position.

She not only burnt her bridges but she shot the engineers. There's no rebuilding them.

I'd be ok with her so far into the back benches that she is sitting on the lawn.

The smart move, given her tendency toward betrayal, but that'll be difficult. She's almost family to Carney. She's likely to get something like: Housing/Infrastructure; National Defence; or Health.

One thing I have learned over the years is that sometimes hard decisions need to be made. I have had some pretty close friends but ended up cutting them loose to salvage situations on more than one occasion.

You cannot let emotions or loyalty get in the way of decisions as that is how problems start. What you need to do is look at what people have done in the past and base things on merit.

To quote Mr. Spock, "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few".

So where is Carney going to run from to be an MP?
I know he could technically pick anywhere, but does anyone know where is his actual residence right now? Is he living in Toronto or Ottawa?

They might now change their minds, but the following Liberal MPs from Ontario declared they were not going to run again. So, one of the three GTA available ridings makes the most sense for Carney. Nipissing—Timiskaming, not so much.
  • Omar Alghabra: The MP for Mississauga Centre and former Minister of Transport announced on July 25, 2023, that he would not run in the next election.
  • Pam Damoff: The MP for Oakville North—Burlington announced on May 1, 2024, that she would not seek re-election, citing concerns for her safety and dissatisfaction with the toxicity in politics.
  • Marco Mendicino: The MP for Eglinton—Lawrence and former Minister of Public Safety announced on January 2, 2025, that he would not seek re-election.
  • Anthony Rota: Representing Nipissing—Timiskaming, Rota declared on October 23, 2023, that he would not seek re-election.
Any chance Bonnie Crombie dumps the OLP and runs for Mississauga Centre MP? I'd do it.

This is just a temporary replacement for JT resigning before his term ended and there'll still be an election in the coming months, right?

If the LPC was smart they would call an election prior to the resumption of Parliament.

That would prevent Pierre Pollievre from being able to build a case against Mark Carney and still take advantage of the honeymoon phase.

Don't forget about Spadina-Fort York and rogue MP Kevin Vuong.

Carney would nuke him there.

I'd think that Toronto—St. Paul's would also be likely, currently held by the Conservatives. The Conservatives squeaked in, during the 2024 by-election, but it's usually a safe Liberal seat. Though I don't know how distribution has impacted this.

Where does Carney actually live?

Leslie Church, the Liberal candidate in last year's Toronto-St. Paul's by-election, has been nominated again.

Where does Carney actually live?

I believe his Canadian residence is in Ottawa.
