If they are building premium suites in place of the production building, where are the production functions moving to?

I, too, am curious as to what will become of the current Saddledome site. I hope that the public will have an opportunity to weigh in on what we would like to see there.

I agree that the Stampede Park redesign should go to an international design competition. It’s an important fixture in our city and any future plans should be made sensitively and carefully.

I would like to see the stampede buy the Remington? Lands, just north of the new arena that is a massive parking lot now, next to the bud barns. Would be a great site for a new stadium that could also hold coke stage shows. Or else build a new coke stage where the Saddledome or agriculture building is now. There is lots of potential. I bet the oldest building on Stampede Park in a decade will be the grandstand building….

Production will stay in the new building, it is a mix of the suites, production, media, and medical.

I'm of the opinion that new amphitheatre style venue for the coke stage should be built on the current saddledome site with a huge permanent canopy in the same shape of the saddledome. Similar programmatically to the new PNE amphitheatre in Vancouver.

That's what I've been saying in conversation to my friends and partner as well. That would also be a huge step in making the grounds a year round, or at least spring-summer-fall, destination.

Hadn't thought about the saddle shape, but yeah would be cool. Unfortunately part of the reason it needs to be demolished is the weak roof. So maybe a shape reminiscent of... I dunno, a cowboy hat? But somehow modern, abstract, and not gross kichy stampitecture 🤪

I'm imagining a roof similar to the one in Van, but either more rounded or closer to a rectangle, and maybe a lighting feature at the top blasting beams up into the sky (the top of the hat), and fins on the sides of the roof (the sides of the cowboy hat) to direct ice and snow down the arms rather than off the ledge... I dunno.

I wish I was good at photoshop. Maybe I'll draw it after work if I remember.

If I had to venture a guess for the near to mid term at Stampede it will be pretty boring:

- Saddledome area will become parking since its closest to the new arena, and Midway during 10-day
- Ag building will move to the other side of Nutrien Centre (ie. Nashville North). Maybe they will want to demolish the old ag building at the same time as Saddledome.
- They will hope to do strips of retail along the 17th Ave extension and the east side of Olympic Way. A few restaurants, a Lammles, maybe a small art gallery, etc

And then they think more about what to do from the Big 4 building south to the river. Maybe they replicate the PIP stage area around there. A lot would depend on possible redevelopment around 25 Ave on both sides of Macleod.

I think building a stadium just north of Scotia Place where the bus barns are would be ideal. It's close to the green line and future grand central station, opens up the possibility of 1 or 2 CFL games every year in close proximity to the Stampede, gives the Stampede an even larger venue for concerts then Scotia Place, and has inevitably better amenities and sight lines than any Stampede grandstand configuration would offer for football.

The more I see it, the more I don’t want the grandstand to become a CFL stadium. The grandstand is kind of a dump. A city of our stature can certainly build a modern 25-27,000 seat stadium that is expandable for larger events. Build the new stadium up where the bus barns are located. Coke stage amphitheater on Saddledome lands, new agriculture building in between Agrium and grandstand building. Rip down the Big 4 and use that for more parking and midway space.

To build off this, imagine getting one or two mega concerts to play this new stadium during stampede….a Stamps game would probably also sell out being so close.
