Let me rephrase that. What makes you think he will not live up to his commitments regardless of how much public money is involved?

I'm not doubting that he will live up to his commitments, though he does keep moving the goal posts on his vision for Ice District. (And it certainly becomes a lot easier for him to honour them when public money is involved.)
That doesn't change why he continues to act like a man with a Virginia ham under one arm, crying the blues because he has no bread. If he can afford to purchase a residential home in California for $150M, he should also be able to afford to purchase his playground in Edmonton.

It not charity though, he isn't giving money to the city. He is investing and making a profit for himself. Which is fine, as he should, but wish it would stop being phrased as it currently is.

I really don't care about incentives for developers to build things in the city. Realistically that's the only thing that is going to restart Edmonton's downtown. Well that and hopefully the new city council does literally anything to clean up the streets.

I guess this is signage only on the Stantec Tower as CIBC online shows this address: "Relocation alert: This Banking Centre will be relocating to 10348-103 St. NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 0Y9 on January 15th, 2026 at 1:00pm. Services will be available at the new address on January 19th, 2026 at 9:30am.". Next door to the Oilers shop I am guessing.

If I'm not mistaken, the only banks that not in the ICE District are Bank of Montreal, ATB Financial and Laurentian.

I believe that is correct, although TD has a second location in City Centre and ATB also has two locations downtown (both not in ICE District - what rebels they are!).
Although, perhaps Laurentian which does not have a branch downtown, can join the bank district party, or as much of a party as it is, M - F from 9 to 5 (not open evenings, weekends or holidays). What a lively area it is.

There is restaurant space available in the NW corner of Stantec Tower. I'm hoping they can lure in the likes of an Earls or a Keg.
I still want to see an A&W in one of the ground level CRUs in homage to the one that was part of the old Greyhound terminal.
