Can't wait for dozens of buses filled with students having to get in and out of downtown. I feel like theres a dozen vacant HBC boxes that could've been better situated.
Indeed, wasn't one of Ford's reasons for moving the OSC was to make it more accessible? I mean it was by the DVP, and close to the 401, with 2 higher level transit lines coming. Harbourfront has a narrow road in front. The Gardiner is frequently quite busy. I'm missing the plus here.

Edit: per @narduch below, we all strongly suspect ulterior motives in this. Just pointing out some of the glaring inconsistent messages

The reasons were always a lie.

He wants to give the land to De Gasperis. That's why it was shut down.

Exactly - realistically it's the ONTARIO science centre. They 'should' move it to somewhere way more transit oriented - specifically by school bus. Doesn't have to be downtown Toronto or connected to subway. Maybe look for land around York U or Vaughan

It always has to go to conspiracies lol. Its as basic as him wanting a brand new facility for him to sell to voters?

Is there a chance that some of the funding for the temporary facility will be used for permanent improvements to Harbourfront Centre?

The Science Centre, (with tons of embodied carbon that should have ensured some tens of millions were spent to upgrade it, not the hundreds of millions it will take to move it), was located where two new rapid transit lines will soon have stations... but it needed to be relocated to be better situated transit-wise? Or school-bus-wise? The move isn't related to being better located, the move is related to Doug Ford trying to build a legacy to himself, or at least mitigate the legacy disaster underway on the Lake.

From @AlexBozikovic in The Globe.

Excerpt:

As with many aspects of the Science Centre story, the government aims to obfuscate the details. An announcement said the facility will occupy 86,000 square feet, about the size of two elementary schools. But this number is bogus. It includes “outdoor program areas.” Subtract those – as one does when talking about buildings, particularly in December.

Then do the math. The previous Science Centre building is 568,000 square feet. It has 160,000 square feet of exhibition space, plus a theatre and Imax cinema. It also has a magnificent sequence of sculptural concrete halls and glassed-in escalators descending into the woodland of the Don Valley.

Temporary facility is notably inferior to the permanent facility it replaces: in other news, the sun rose this morning.

I mean - nobody should be surprised the temporary facility sucks.. it's temporary.

We need to apply this scrutiny to the planned permanent replacement to ensure it can offer a similar quality of facility as the original science centre.
