The height and designs are fine, I just have trouble wrapping my head that there would be SO MUCH demand for apartment living in Orleans. Even if there were, I would've much preferred they try to create a liveable/walkable downtown Orleans with retail & services nearby vs. these random towers in a park project next to the 417.

I'm of the camp of. Get people there first, and the demand will justify the supply. personally I'm in my late 20's. i just want a place to stay, the amenities and walkable luxuries can come after I've moved in. be it 5-10 years down the road. it's the same story with the LRT and TOD. chicken and egg, cat and mouse. we just need someone to bite first.

I've been living in Orleans for 15 years. South of Innes road is where new developments, businesses and schools are popping up. It would have make more sense to build the LRT nearby but more expensive. Old Orléans (St. Joseph) is having a tough time. The Stations near Place d'Orléans looks like it may give a new life to this area. The Devapp project is indeed massive and there others too. I guess we'll have to see.

I also preferred the RLA design, which I'm sure is a sentence none of us through we would ever utter. That RLA design I would have thought would have been cheaper to build because it's more consistent.

Still, it's not bad. reminds me of Brigil's "The Dale" (which is interesting, a non Brigil project that is not Brigil near a real Brigil). I like all the retail, but still no space for a grocery store. Hoping someone builds the pedestrian bridge in the near future.

A non RLA, NEUF designed non Brigil project beside a NEUF designed Brigil project that reminds you of a RLA designed Brigil project!

Is it just me or does CTV usually write lousy articles?

In the very first sentence. "Ottawa’s skyline in the east and west ends is about to become more crowded" Why is that written in such a negative tone? Seriously.

Also.. it's Fotenn. Not Foteen! you silly goose.

For the Stittsville building it says 26 storeys and then in the next paragraph 25.

While the article does mention the buildings are withing 300m of Trim station it makes no mention of the roughed in piers for an overpass.

This Reddit thread is a disaster.

A bunch of people arguing over whether or not somebodies ability to walk 15 minutes means your going to die 10 years early. A tiny fraction of the people on there are aware of the planned overpass. One guy thinks the piers are for a 2 lane road.

In a world where most people understandingly are misinformed/underinformed CTV is not helping.

Such a joke honestly.

Here's the potentially 'crowded' Orleans skyline:

It's just SOOOOOOO crowded at the corner of the city. Like whatever will Orleans residents do???? All those shades are going to DESTROY their sunlight!!!!!!!!!!

On a more positive note, I don't like the location because I like what Kanata and Barrhaven more than what Orleans has planned, but these are a good development. The mixed-use of the towers is going to be really useful, a restaurant, co-working space, and all that retail will make living there comfortable, and hopefully like RideauRat said; lots of chicken and the egg. I'll take whatever we can get in terms of development. These will have a beautiful view of the river too. Not perfect, but lots of positives with this one.

It's a bit of a weird spot in the sense that it will "burn" high-rise living units that could arguably be better suited more central locations. On the other hand I can see the appeal of living out this way for some. Orleans is large enough, and for that matter Barrhaven and Kanata, are starting to become generational communities for some. It's not just a place on the map.

I could easily see these towers being gobbled up by people getting rid of their SFH and downsizing while their children and grandchildren stay within Orleans. There is definitely a difference in demographics between the 4 corners of Ottawa/Gatineau, Francophone/Anglophone being the most obvious. Catholic schools and church groups etc. I think if you sell a property somewhere, short of leaving the city you would be much more likely to stay within a certain sphere.

I've personally never lived further west than Percy and Lisgar. My grandmother just passed has had the same house on Smyth rd since 1962. Paternal grandmother just moved from her place at Bronson and Lakeside after being there since the 70s and my uncle took over the spot. Both of my parents have lived on the east side of the city for their entire lives aside from Sandy Hill etc.
