It would require a monumentally bad candidate, or such a divided vote that he pulled a 'Pasternak' (winning with 19% of the vote in a 12-way split)
Or a little bit of both, ie an opposition consisting of a bunch of non-viable mice. Which is how Michael Thompson managed to be re-elected last time despite the looming spectre of sex scandal. (Or how Ana Bailao managed to be re-elected in the most nominally "progressive" ward in the city in '18; essentially, the NDP machine "threw" that one--but made up for it w/Alejandra Bravo in Bailao's absence in '22)

Brad Brad’s council seat isn’t a given. He’s heavily disliked in The Beaches. He first ran as a bike riding progressive and turned out to be a Toronto Sun / CP24 fear monger whose other attributes are cockiness and an obnoxious attitude.
It's a weird thing to stop calling him a bike rider because his politics changed. Have you seen his thighs, this guy cycles more than any of the bike lane warriors out there.

Well, it's not about bike riding so much as bike riding *progressivism*. In a way, Bradford might be seen as more of a "brocyclist", if that's any kind of concept.

I am not worried about his thighs. His brain is of more concern. What a dick he has turned into!
Just a commentary on how we tend to point out he is a cyclist when his politics were perceived to be more left wing, but we omit that when his politics are perceived as being more right wing.

It's a weird disconnect for me, seeing as cyclists are overwhelmingly and disproportionately white, male, wealthy, able-bodied.. Brad to a tee.

He's not well liked in East York either.....

He has spent more time in the last 4 years outside the ward than in it; and his constituency service has been abysmal for the last six years or so.

Progressives are mad at him, but bike lane opponents haven't forgiven him.

He's in a lose-lose scenario.

If we can find anyone more consequential than a broomstick to run against him, he's toast in this ward.

I know Jennie Worden - who was the runner up in that ward in 2022 - plans to run again. She's great!

I know Jennie too, I was hoping she'd run again, but hadn't confirmed that she would. Glad to hear it. She'll have my backing.

Is he a "cyclist" or does he "ride a bike". That's the sort of the difference you are getting at. I see the Winter Olympics are coming up, which is the embodiment of that. 95% of those athletes have some background sob story that will go out to the media about how their parents "struggled" to cover the costs of their sport, those costs often being like $200,000/year, so it was really difficult since they only make $1 million before taxes and they could only afford a few two week trips per year to Europe to see their son in an international bobsledding competition.

LOL! I can't stand those lame background stories desperately trying to relate to the common man either. If you're a professional Olympic level athlete, you come from a wealthy background, full stop. No sympathy here for your family's "struggle" 😆
