Looking forward to the day we stop talking about upgrades to the Byward Market and start seeing upgrades to the Byward Market. So much potential but everything is a study away from another study from another proposal, etc.

That central market building has so much potential. See what places like The Forks in Winnipeg have done for inspiration (obviously theirs is bigger) but ours is dingy, old and crammed with tiny shops with very little indoor space to walk, sit or enjoy.

Look at the St Lawrence market in Toronto they talked about it for years before doing anything.

They have an interior rendering. Far more open than the current setup.

Watson had a whole plan approved and ready to go when he left office. I'm frustrated, but not surprised, Sutcliffe didn't work on it at all before the 200th.

I can’t think about anything Sutcliffe has (hasn’t) done for too long or I start to get irritated. We really need a change from trying to find “inefficiencies” and kicking our problems down the road to something a little more forward thinking…
Am i a big fan of him now but some looking at running me scare me one with a MAGA type platform another with massive cuts and give control to community groups. Then you have Jeff and Mark but will the other 2 running hurt Jeff or Marks chances and we end up with a worse mayor.

Much too early to say, closer to the election we’ll see how things shake out, but I have an optimistic feeling. Might be misguided sure but I have hope. I am fully expecting to be proven wrong though haha.

Maybe with that said i don't think the market plan is awful but we could do much better. Its the same with Landsdown the plan on its surface does whats needed but could have done much better.

Market plan is fine, would have liked to see a bit more ambition but I'll take what I can get. Lansdowne is just silly, I appreciate the added density / retail and the area is nice enough, but I am not a fan of the current transit situation on Bank street. Not to mention the partnership has yet to be profitable. Actually now that you brought it up I am starting to get annoyed about it 🤣🤣

Can someone think of (and list) a few of Sutcliffe's major accomplishments for Ottawa since he has taken over office?

CBC article pointing out that this is just Watson's plan dusted off and credited to Sutcliffe.

Images from CTV article.

Not linking the terrace on the Market Building. Negatively impacting the heritage value. And look at all the cars.

Not much different from what we have now, you know, the Watson era improvements.

This just shows how the street will be pedestrianized the rare times it's pedestrianized. Some improvements to the plaza on the left.

Not a fan of those light fixtures (though I'm sure those aren't final), but overall, yeah, it's an improvement over the current state. Note that none of the outdoor shots show the new glass roof.

I thought there was already a byward market district revitalization plan from a few years ago that was significantly better than this? (Brick roads, at least one of the side streets next to the market building fully pedestrianised, less parking). Has that now been cancelled to be replaced with this, which frankly looks identical to what already exists except for the interior of the market building?
