Lansdowne's current version is a joke. I am very much a person who was supportive of 2.0, but the cut down of towers (with Menard and Glebe NIMBYs patting themselves on the back as if that was a win). We lost a lot in each revision, and the old original plan, was much better. Had they just gone with what was there, it would have also supplemented the cost better too.
Instead we got a half baked plan, which yes, we do need more to actually do Lansdowne right, but the potential was so much better. And honestly, it could have been used to finally spur a tram down bank with dedicated lanes (building parking garages throughout bank on lots near the main street) or finally putting QED to better use to connect Rideau to Lansdowne / Bank and to Billings.
It is what it is at this point, it can't be stopped; and I still want Lansdowne to improve over what it is now, but many of us are justifiably not happy with the current rendition.
Original proposal:
Large amount of retail and mixed use, hotel component, an arena with greenspace left intact, and so on.
Versus whatever this is:
Granted, I believe they did say two 40 floor towers now.. but still.. the latest plan is worse, in my opinion. That loss of retail, mid sized venue, and Rec Room, and then question marks about a hotel make me go, why?
