Haven't you seen the 1974 version of The Taking of Pelham 123? Travelling south of 28th Street Station carries the risk of your subway train getting hijacked.

nope. but i just looked it up and it sounds similar to money train.

The Taking of Pelham 123...

Everyone: The 1974 version of the movie "The Taking of Pelham 123" was very well written and filmed but with some things missing-like graffiti-which was quite prevalent in that time period. The NYCTA co-operated well in the production of that movie.

The remake later-late 90s I presume?-was filmed in Toronto because of things like the favorable Canada-US Dollar exchange rate and the later lack of co-operation on the project by NYC Transit I recall reading.

For a NYC Subway action movie it was quite good-but the part I remember best is Walter Matthau-playing a NYC Transit Police detective-catching one of the hijackers later who had a sneezing problem-and how he would say
"Gesundheit" in reply-on a later visit to a suspect who sneezed in his presence upon leaving-the look on his face was just classic - he had found his man!

Another movie with a good 70s era sequence concerning NYC Transit was the elevated train chase scene in the movie "The French Connection" arguably one of the best chase scenes ever filmed. I recall seeing a show about the making of this movie and that chase scene was described-there is a part showing two trains colliding head-on that was actually filmed in REVERSE so when it was shown forward the collision impression was good.

These movies are 70s era classics-it's always good!

movies like the French Connection and Taxi Driver defined 1970's NY....

One of my uncles went to NY in the 70's and said "it was like if NYC became like NJ"

Gosh, I remember seeing Saturday Night Fever at the Uptown when it was released, with my friend William and the ancient ( well, he was 35 ... ) Australian who lusted after him.

Then we went out to the Manatee and danced the night away.
