With this new style of bus terminal, I really hope they do a lot of work to ensure people cross where they are supposed to, because especially with this design, anyone coming from the south is going to want to access from the southwest corner rather than travel all the way around to the north.

Additionally I would love if the bus terminal had some kind of signal priority to move buses in and out quickly rather than getting stuck behind a bunch of people going to and from the mall.

They are introducing a dedicated bus driveway onto Wentworth which should help - albeit it's a right-in, right-out limited access driveway. Buses wanting to enter or exit northbound on Wentworth will need to use the traffic signals associated with the mall.

Hey finally! I worked on the MUP design there so I saw the early version of this design a long time ago. There's also a dedicated bus left-turn lane on upper wentworth into the mall entrance, sadly not enough room to have one leaving the mall entrance, but as mentioned only buses needing to go south on upper wentworth will need to use the mixed traffic exit.

The funny part is we needed to design and build that bus entrance and the elevation of the existing parking lot is very different to what it will be with this built, hence the retaining wall on the left (south) side there.

With Wal-Mart opening at one end of the mall I wonder if Limeridge could also support a Nations Experience like the one announced for Oakville Place? - https://retail-insider.com/retail-i...xperience-takes-possession-at-oakville-place/

From a grocery perspective they cater to different markets mostly so I think it would be a good fit especially with the food hall and entertainment concept would be a nice addition to Limeridge.

The nations in Jackson Square does well, and there is somewhat a market for it on the mountain. But I don’t know if Hamilton can support two Asian grocers at this point in time. Most are in central or Westdale, elsewhere it’s fairly diffuse.

There is also a Vietnamese and Filipino population on the mountain. However, in feeling out this market, Jollibee tested it at the mall with a pop up, and I guess the demographic wasn’t up to their expectations in 2021/22.

I wonder if they have data for all malls. I am a bit surprised to not at least see Mapleview on the list. They have a ton of nicer stores that you can't find in Hamilton.

Hamilton is too poor. It seriously needs to lure in some companies that pay good taxes and offer high-paying jobs. We need businesses and people with money.

Like half of Limeridges square footage is vacant right now generating $0/sq ft. All sales have to be generated by the small format retailers.

Once Walmart comes in and they backfill The Bay it should shoot up in sales again. The problem is that CF let it rot for a decade+ without any investment.

It’s never going to be a AAA mall but there is no reason it can’t be in the top 25 in the country.

Conestoga mall is #25 on the list and is definitely a tier below Limeridge but manages to beat it because it’s got a lot less vacancy.. once Primaris gets Limeridge back to leased up it should shoot up the rankings again.

It's beyond odd to me that CF let the mall rot. I know the common refrain is that "Hamilton is too poor" but considering the population of Brantford, Brant, and Grimsby along with Hamilton, you have a sizable population to support a major mall. Limeridge is jammed much of the week, and had the rental buildings been built I could imagine it being consistently full and those units would be easily rented with access to the bus terminal, Limeridge and Fortinos, not to mention the LINC.

I don't get how Eastgate is seemingly planning to intensify before Limeridge now and equally surprised CF decided to offload it. Limeridge was at one point one of the most efficient malls per square foot I recall being mentioned earlier in this thread. Seemed it was on a path to becoming even better, and they simply bailed on maintaining, and then further bailed completely.

The interior of lime ridge is very dated/old compared to other CF properties. It would of been a huge investment to modernize the mall. I bet they sold since it wasn't worth such an investment.

Mapleview really has the market for "good" mall in the area - I could see the Simons there vs Mapleview.

I think CF struggled to lease it out to their “standards” (ie Simon’s or Nordstrom type thing). Primaris is more focused on running B to A level malls, while CF is really only interested in the AAA properties. They just sold Masonville in London for the same reason.. not for lack of relative success as a normal middle class mall, but because it couldn’t keep up with the AAA malls like the Eaton Centre in leasing.

Primaris is more willing to lease out to lower tier tenants and will get Limeridge reoccupied quickly at a more “mid tier” type level.

Mapleview as others have mentioned is evolving as the premium mall in the area given its proximity to Burlington and Oakville, which have large numbers of high income households and particularly Oakville, which is the wealthiest municipality in Canada, and has no local mall.

Even Mapleview hasn’t seen a full renovation in about 20 years at this point though… they are both due for investment.
