Pope at Palm Sunday Mass: ‘Jesus does not listen to prayers of those who wage war’

From https://www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2026-03/pope-leo-xiv-celebrates-palm-sunday-mass-rome.html

Pope Leo XIV presides at Mass on Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion, and reflects on Jesus as the King of Peace who rejects war and refuses to listen to the prayers of those who wage war.

It's not the first time faith leaders have spoken out against this Administration which likes to project that it sits on the side of the angels. Normally, they are pretty quick to attack anyone who speaks against them, Trump, Hegseth and Leavitt in particular but not in these cases. It seems they are not completely unhinged and recognize that would attack their base.

Does implying that everyone who answered is uneducated negate their will?
It negates their answer. If I did a poll asking if you would like $100, your answer would be different knowing the cost/consequences of it.

That’s dangerous territory you’re dipping your toes into with that idea — it implies the government always knows better than the people who elect it.

Democracy means nothing if the will of the people takes a forced back seat to procedural difficulty.

The MAGA pickup truck type must be thrilled with their vote right about now.

If we didn't all have to live with that decision, I'd be laughing. That the United States would be falling apart was entirely predictable the night of the election but Trump has graduated to screwing up the entire world in his second term. One idiot cannot be given that much power. We need to decentralize the world economy and military power away from the US whether or not Trump or a Trump-like figure is in the White House.

Plans for gaudy Trump presidential library in Miami spark ridicule

Video posted on social media depicts a rendering of the proposed 50-storey gargantuan structure decked in gold

In a city of respected art deco buildings, ridicule is being heaped on the latest structure proposed for Miami’s skyline: the Donald J Trump presidential library, unveiled in ambitious plans posted to social media on Monday night. A 1 minute 40 second video tour of the proposed gargantuan structure revealed it will be decked, almost inevitably, in Trump’s trademark gold, including a giant statue of him, and will feature Air Force One, the $400m Boeing “flying palace” gifted to him by Qatar, in its cavernous lobby. Its 50 storeys will tower above any structure surrounding it, including the adjacent Miami Freedom Tower, a symbol of US rejection of oppression and tyranny for more than 100 years. “This landmark on the water in Miami, Florida will stand as a lasting testament to an amazing man, an amazing developer, and the greatest President our Nation has ever known,” Eric Trump, the president’s son and the co-chair of the non-profit foundation seeking donations to build the library, gushed on social media.

The release came on the same day that Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, signed a law renaming Palm Beach international airport, near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, to the President Donald J Trump international airport. While many Trump supporters praised the video of the presidential library rendering in comments on social media, other posts were swift and more brutal. The press office of Gavin Newsom, California’s Democratic governor, posted photographs of giant shining effigies of other world leaders with the mocking words: “The gold statue in Trump’s new library (of himself) looks awfully familiar to a few others from around the world.” The author and media personality Rutger Bregman also seized on an AI-generated image of Trump’s statue on a stage in front of a large audience of supporters. “A golden statue in a temple where the faithful gather to worship their idol. But enough about the Book of Exodus – here’s Trump’s Presidential Library!” he wrote. The video was set entirely to music and gave no indication of a timeline for its construction after Trump is set to leave office in January 2029. But the valuable tract of waterfront land on which it will sit already belongs to Eric Trump’s foundation after it was gifted by Miami-Dade College (MDC) in a highly controversial transfer last year. A federal judge initially blocked the transaction after opponents argued the college did not give enough advance notice for a public meeting at which the deal was approved, but the ruling was later overturned and college trustees voted again to cede the land to the state of Florida, which in turn handed it on to Eric Trump.
“It’s a land giveaway to the Trump Library Foundation,” Marvin Dunn, a local historian and retired MDC professor who brought the lawsuit, told CBS News at the time.
“Who is the Trump Library Foundation? Eric Trump, his wife, and some dude lawyer.” Plans for the library also include an amphitheater, and re-creations of the Oval Office and the contentious new ballroom that Trump is building on the site of the demolished East Wing of the White House. “Miami deserves this building,” Eric Trump told the Miami Herald in a statement. “It will be a masterpiece, the likes of which have never been seen in Florida or really anywhere.”

Golden toilet ‘installed’ on National Mall, mocking Trump White House reno

A sculpture of a golden toilet upon a marble throne that bears a likeness to U.S. President Donald Trump’s styling of the Oval Office has appeared on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in protest of the White House renovations.

The marble-and-gold structure features a plaque that reads, “A throne fit for a king. In a time of unprecedented division, escalating conflict, and economic turmoil, President Trump focused on what truly mattered: remodelling the Lincoln bathroom in the White House.”
“It stands as a tribute to an unwavering visionary who looked down, saw a problem and painted it gold.”
The statue includes a roll of toilet paper that reads “The Secret Handshake,” the name of a group that has claimed responsibility for similar stunts.
As well as redoing the bathroom off the Lincoln bedroom, Trump has added a wide array of golden gilding to the Oval Office and is closing the Kennedy Center — after the board voted to rename it to include the president — for a two-year remodel.

Trump has also initiated an extensive renovation of the White House, including the demolition of the East Wing and the replacement of the space with a 90,000-square-foot ballroom, at a US$400-million cost footed by the president and a slew of private donors.

Kinda reminds me of this place...

I expect the admin will flout the ballroom ruling. Will the court stop them? With what army?

Trump has lost two big court cases today

A grain or two of trust in the United States judicial branch has been restored. If this prevents Trump from building the ballroom just long enough for the Democrats to take over the House and introduce some accountability, then it may not get built at all. On PBS and NPR, this might give any media companies with any remnants of integrity and belief in the fourth estate the willpower to keep fighting to shine light on an authoritarian president and his corrupt executive and judicial branches.

Sure Trump is untouchable but not his minions directing and building this. Having the President's consent to break the law is still breaking the law. Let's see how MAGA those contractors and construction workers are.

Judge orders Trump administration to halt White House ballroom construction

Oh no! Not his ballroom! He was just in the middle of picking out the golden curtains for it! What is he going to do now in between his golf outings?
