Randy in Politics.. Please.. That would be like telling a cow to meow, can not be done. Plus he is in Florida spending his hard earned money he is trying to hide from his ex and not paying support and much needed Autism therapy for his child... We do not NEED assholes like that in our government or for anything.. They need to all go for therapy and get out of politics. Our city has had enough of the Ford family. Bubble heads they are lol.

I agree with you on Mikey Mouse, but not that he is only a trustee, at least he is an elected official, and the only other Ford to that claim. Randy has the official title of designated asshole, and has no business being there tomorrow unless of course he is the escort for a bubble head doll and give out fridge magnets.

The only choice IMO is Kelly and Tory.

I think it's Rob Ford being well, Rob Ford. Giving the finger to each and every councillor who didn't support him and literally turned their backs on him, condemning him for his unseemly behaviour. What a toxic individual.

This, exactly. Rob Ford hasn't changed one bit. He is giving the rest of council the finger.

"Shit happens" Cllr Ceta Ramkhalawansingh on flubbing dead soldiers' names during Remembrance Day speech http://ow.ly/E8hWx #TOpoli

Shocked and appalled.

Thanks, Rob. < sarcasm >

And it's nice to see she performed in a Fordish way. What a tool.

I am not sure if one should take kindly to that - it shows a lack of preparation and care. If you can prep and read a speech, you definitely can make sure these details are right. It's not "sh*t happens" (and that attitude is in an on itself highly problematic applied to something as sombre as a RD ceremony).

You have to commend her on being a great designate for Robbie, too good in fact. As has happened before, I'm sure she was informed and coached by Robbie's team 1 to 2 hours (if she was lucky) before the speech.

This doesn't excuse what happened.

Just Google for his bio - it is telling.

And on another note - since when did Remembrance Day becomes a sales pitch? In honour of RD Retweet this and get 10% off? It's just distasteful.

AoD

Ask that of the companies having Remembrance Day sales. I personally include the sale of poppies, but that's a can of worms that does not need to be opened.

Well, perhaps Ledrew should forget about his career as a commentator and work in pastoral care instead. Oh and don't he worry, it would be hard to forget anyone this infamous and impotent, mayor absentia.

Then again, looking at LeDrew's past history, it's pretty evident where his empathy is coming from. Har.

AoD

I just had a terrifying image of LeDrew doing pastoral care at a hospital, frightening patients with his hideous bowtie and caterpillar eyebrows. Not to mention his repulsive personality.

They just read what's handed to them. It seems like the same sad speech every year. Except this year, it sounds like someone forgot to pencil in the names.

This is how Rob does it:

I'm just thankful he didn't send Doug as his designated hitter, like at Nuit Blanche. "Folks!..."

Yeah, that seems to be my vibe on it, too: she was designated on the fly with little guidance other than "here, take this, read it". And so, her narration went all "Adele Dazeem" on us, and her s--t-happens was essentially a "see, this is what happens when you're guided by a bozo" statement.

Oh, and something interesting dawned on me re Rob Ford's impending mortality: AFAIK of everyone elected to Council since the present Ward system was instituted in 2000, as of this writing the only one that's deceased is Jack Layton. (And the last to die in office was another Mayor-turned-Councillor: Scarborough's Frank Faubert in 1999.)

To be fair, Ford only withdrew from the event last night, leaving his replacement very little time to prepare remarks and deliver them perfectly by this morning.

I guess we can say it demonstrated a lack of preparation and care, but most of us would expect more than 24 hours to prep before an event like this. Ford would have had his entire staff available to write his speech. Who did his replacement have on hand on such late notice?? The asshole here is Ford, who was unsurprisingly too selfish to withdraw in a timely fashion.

The issue wasn't with her remarks but with the mispronounciation of names. That's pretty important stuff, you'd think especially for someone whose name gets mangled often. Sure, short notice, but it could have been done right.

I haven't considered Rob my mayor since his power and budget were transferred to Norm Kelly. They can't fire him apparently. Until JoTo is inaugurated, I'm more concerned with the state of Norm's health than I am with Rob's.

( Not to say I don't feel sorry for Rob as a person. )

Regarding the speech. I believe that except for a few minor changes, the speeches do not change much. After all, they've been making basically the same annual speech for about 90 years.

She appears to be remorseful on twitter. Says the titles were not on her cards and the names went right out of her head. I feel for her.

When I worked in communications for the province, a speech like that would have been written weeks in advance. It would have gone through multiple revisions with edits from staff and the actual speaker. It might only be finalized last minute, but the speaker would have rehearsed and lots of eyes would have caught any gaps well before show time (like people's names and titles).
