Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the prisons in Edmonton either provincial or federally funded? The only prisons in Edmonton paid for by local Edmonton taxpayers would be the police station holding cells, no?

That’s only one solution and it’s not going to work for everyone. Once you get some of the people housed, what are you going do with the rest of the people where housing doesn’t work?

With the retail in those developments it’ll get decent busy.

Great they’re adding a 17th Ave entrance, but ultimately it would be nice to see a whole new development and that useless parking lot gone altogether.

I love seeing the constant flow of brownfield units being built and like you said it would be a higher number if including all of the smaller brownfield builds. Is there anywhere SRC or anyone else keeps track of that?

50 units in that size of land is quite a density boost!

It’s a good density add that gets rid of a parking lot. The exterior design is a bit weird though, it looks like it’s covered in scaffolding.

Ottawa and Winnipeg will never have a skyline like Calgary’s, especially Winnipeg, for them it’ll never even be close. Edmonton probably won’t either, but who knows. I doubt we’ll see any more office towers built there, only apartments. Same for Calgary, but we got all those office buildings...

Foothills MD would add 80k, a fairly substantial amount. It would put Calgary over 10% difference from Edm/Ott. Compared to the difference from Vancouver, it’s not huge, but comparing to the three 3 2nd tier cities that were pretty close a decade ago it’s a good sized difference.

Good to see it’s still under construction.

It’s hard to say because we’ll never know how many people don’t stay in Calgary because they can’t find a hotel to their liking. We only know about the people who do stay but don’t know about the ones who don’t. The prices that would likely be charged at these Marriott hotels won’t be outrageous...
