The fire exit signs are also attached to the emergency lighting system so they stay on if all the other lights in the restaurant go off. It's pretty standard to have these things in public spaces like restaurants, even if it doesn't match the rest of the decor.

It's very difficult to operationalize a million small-time landlords reporting on rent payments to a credit bureau or whatever other bureaucracy they think they'll set up. In any event, do renters what whoever owns the basement apartment they're renting to be able to ruin their credit if their...

I used to work in Mississauga and the sushi counter at Pusateri's was a nice lunch spot if I had time to treat myself.

The Well has a pretty dense neighbourhood surrounding it. And people complain about the Well's transit, but it does have two streetcars and is just a <10 minute walk from the subway. Unlike Villiers, which will be lucky to get a streetcar by 2040. I think Rebel's days are numbered. The Island...

Homelessness on GTA Transit (catch all)

There are ways to force treatment on people and keep them there against their will, but that's basically jail, so the test is pretty stringent.

If you could wave a magic wand and end drug addiction and mental illness, Toronto would still have several thousand homeless people. If you got rid of alcohol, that would probably make a big dent in the number.

That’s not really expanding an international presence though. It’s really just to provide services to students coming to study in Canada.

That’s what we’re doing! The number one policy response has to be to bring housing prices down.

Rocco’s No Frills will be gone (but hopefully reincarnated) long before anything is occupied on Villiers Island.

Probably not worth engaging with someone with that level of disconnection from reality.

That is totally wrong. There is obviously a link to drug use and mental health, but the link between housing prices and homelessness is very clear: https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/articles/2023/08/22/how-housing-costs-drive-levels-of-homelessness

Homelessness on GTA Transit (catch all)

I'm pretty sure all of the people who advocate giving out tents and letting people sleep in parks also advocate providing shelter beds and supportive housing in apartments. But as long as there's not going to be money for those things, tents (and safe supply/safe use sites) are the interim...

It seems unlikely. Other than that one privately owned piece of land on Cherry, no specific project is even in the pipeline right now?.

Yeah, it leaves all of the choice up to you, which is why conservatives have traditionally embraced carbon pricing as the most freedom-enhancing way to target emission reductions.

The Amano people are starting a bit of an empire around Union Station and to the east. They run the Union Chicken in Union Station as well as at least two of the food stalls in the "foodie aisle" (Mikey's Smash Burgers and MightyBird). I think they also own the Carbon Bar and were planning that...
