    RapidTO: Master Thread

As noted, they are probably just parking somewhere slightly further away where they aren't blocking a busy artery. It's not like there's a shortage of parking in this city.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

They did this at Broadview today, in both directions. Trains slowed to a crawl and crept along the platform. I only saw it once (because we got on the train) but saw it in both directions.

    Return to office discussion

Nobody does any work in Toronto during the World Cup, no matter where it is. I'll be downtown watching the daytime games at the bars and other viewing areas.

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

And because they didn't build any transit to that neighbourhood, everybody who moves in there pretty much has to have a car. So why would you walk to the closer smaller grocery store when you can just drive to one of the big ones?

    Mayor Olivia Chow's Toronto

I drove from Bloor and Dufferin to Stockyards today to buy a Christmas tree, and the number of times one or two parked cars on Dundas W, Keele, etc. were causing traffic chaos was infuriating. More public bathrooms and banning lefts on streetcar lines are pretty much no-brainers. Ed Keenan...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Drug possession and use is not treated as a crime. I'm pretty sure it's official (maybe not "OFFICIAL" official) TPS policy that you would never be charged for drug possession if that was the only offence you're committing at the time (though they will tag it on if you are committing another...

I went to law school at York. I'm not concerned about taking my kid to Jane and Finch, especially during the hours he's awake.

Cops have better things to do. And cameras are very effective!

President Donald Trump's United States of America

I think this is what he's referring to. https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/36-28-0001/2024004/article/00001-eng.htm I think there's no question that growth in standards of living for most Canadians have fallen behind many of our peers in the last 5-10 years (though many also have the same...

    LCBO / The Beer Store

Most people in Toronto don't return their empties anyways - they put them on the curb and someone collects and returns them. This is going to make that cottage industry a lot harder on the mostly old, presumably pretty poor, people who do it. Literally nobody is going to drive their own empties...

We saw these signs this morning and my son was sooooooooo excited. Now I'll have to go up to Finch to ride the streetcar. Any destinations up there for a six year old?

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Sure, but it's 10+ million people.

I don't think POOs can enforce moving violations. That's why we need cameras.

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Quebec is #7, but Hamilton, KW, London, St. Catherines/Niagara and Windsor are #9, 10, 11, 13 and 14, so connecting that grouping would bring much more utility than Quebec City. But we all know the politics involved, so Quebec City will be in no matter what.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Most of us love to have our drink of choice, but alcohol is responsible for more death, injury and social disfunction than pretty much anything other than cars (and guns in the US).

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Yeah, I got an email saying I have to renew my license and health card, and was immediately filled with a sense of dread. But then my wife told me when she did it earlier this year, she just made an appointment and it was super efficient. The passport offices are also working well these days...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The Ontario Living Wage Network says the living wage in Toronto is $27.20. So $30 would generally be considered somewhat above "poverty".

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Unfortunately, the housing crisis is definitely not off topic when discussing the TTC. It becomes immediately apparent as soon as the weather gets colder and people who have been living/sleeping outside are looking for warm places to take refuge. We don't provide housing or safe shelters, so the...

Maybe they have long term plans to put one in Quayside or Ookwemin?
