The REM team uploaded a video today announcing that launch beams Anne and Marie have finished their work. Video in French.

They have been testing the trains since December 2020 between Brossard station and Milan Boulevard. The trains should be fine and now they are testing the track.

REM opening schedule updated: https://rem.info/en/news/2022-schedule-new-testing-sequence They claim this schedule prevents delays that could have set the last opening of the Deux-Montagnes and Anse-à-l’Orme branches until 2026. They will start the testing on the branches before the tunnel...

The downtown portion has been abandoned and now streetcar-loving councillors will come asking for urban trams again. The pessimist in me thinks they will not suddenly decide to burry the line downtown using tiny trains anymore. Instead, I see them creating a scenic LRT line that will be as fast...

The assumption is that the TRs won't reach 90s is because the line's infrastructure, not the train alone, is not designed to handle that frequency. My understanding is that the time a train takes to clear the platform plays a big role. This gives shorter trains an advanatge. For the current...

Each consortium handles the maintenance too. Moving trains between lines is never an option even if technically compatible.

Some articles in English about the latest REM B drama. The city and the province are still on board. And seem to have reiterated their commitments with more funding. https://montrealgazette.com/opinion/columnists/hanes-rem-de-lest-drama-shows-how-artms-navigation-skills-have-been-devalued...

I remember they were planning to have narrower trains than in Rem A. Thought it was in the Techincal Book but cants seem to find it now. That makes the future interoperably not possible. But nothing is set in stone until the contracts get signed. Who knows, maybe the consortium with Alstom will...

The REM in Montreal is undergoing winter testing right now. Montreal get's more snow than Toronto. So far we have not heard about any winter issues. But we will see once the project opens later this year. Will be a good project to watch. That project is a good example of a contemporary turnkey...

    TTC/Metrolinx: Scarborough Subway Extension

It's not uncommon for tunnel boring shafts to be used as stations. I haven't gotten around looking for docs related to this. But all of this is speculation until someone does some digging. The Crosstown itself started construction on the stations after tunnel boring was finished.

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Trains are just a bunch of components and features. add them all together or strip some of them off and you get to call them different things. Things like local norms and history affect it too. So talking about what to call it is less useful than what component it has and how it operates...

I stand corrected on the St. George expansion. Having it on the map only shows their confidence but necessarily that it would happen. And it did not happen. The 5 station expansion of the blue line was a 'go' until they failed to buy the parking lot of a mall at the end of the line and cost...

Toronto/Ontario has studied line after line and canceled them all one after another. (Queens Streetcar Subway, GO ALRT, Hamilton RT, etc) The Regional Transportation Plan is sensitive to political interference and is less than a napkin drawing. (Hello Shepperd Subway/LRT/Ontario Line Loop) The...

You are all sitting here making excuses why Canada/Toronto cant do better while European countries build hundreds of kilometers of subways at China-like speeds. That is embarrassing... Even Montreal is building faster now by sensibly building elevated guideways, reusing existing corridors, and...
