    Calgary Transit

Not to keep harping on the topic of Calgary dropping the ball on transit, as I don't agree with some of the things mentioned by Reece Martin, but he brings up good points. Comparative to other cities Calgary has done well, especially for the size of the city, and when comparing to low hanging...

    Calgary Flames Official Thread

Not for this draft, but down the road. This kid could be a first overall, and at the rate the Flames are trending :( they might be in the running for overall pick by then.

Certainly a lot of parking for a development right next to a future train station. I wonder the developer was doing this design with the station location already decided as the north side of CHB, if they would have designed it with less parking? The problem with this type of location is that...

I'm on the fence about whether to renovate McMahon, or to put our efforts into a smaller stadium/large field house say around 20-25,000 that could be used for multiple sports. I've been to a couple of football matches in Europe in stadiums that were smaller, and it was quite enjoyable. The...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

From what I've seen, opposition to blanket zoning seems to be from people of all colors and sexes, but almost exclusively from people who are owners of single or semi detached homes, even if those homes aren't in an affluent neighborhood.

I know with inflation pressures, etc.. this won't be a popular take, but we do some some of the lowest property taxes in the county. If those went up a bit more, we can pat our head and rub our tummy. ;)

I'll be honest, I've only used the BRT once, trying the Max Purple on a Saturday after it first opened, so I don't have an opinion either way. I would say that any shortcomings are more about the mgmt of the system rather than the infrastructure. They can always increase the schedule more, now...

    Calgary Transit

We’ll have to agree to disagree 😉 I don’t think they’ve ever hit the brakes since the first LRT leg opened in 1981. There has been constant expansion, additions and planning, with much of the additions coming in spurts, but still constant. It look like much hasn’t been happening with the last...

    Calgary Transit

I wouldn't say Calgary has dropped the ball in general. Calgary built their extensions back in the 90's and early 2000's and extending them more isn't something badly needed whereas Edmonton is just doing that now. The four branches of the two Calgary lines already go to the far ends of the...

Calgary becoming the next Detroit: A look 10 years later.

Thanks for that in-depth analysis @ByeByeBaby. This is great insight into the industry and its trends. Aside from the benefit of more accurate info, it more or less re-enforces that the economy is becoming less reliant on oil and gas. It's still the biggest single industry, but Calgary isn't as...

There was a driller on site at one time, but it doesn't look like piles were installed. It could be that they had the excavator levelling the are in preparation for drilling. Let's hope.
