You're right - and it's not fair of me to judge it before it's all finished.
My admittedly knee-jerk reaction was based on Toronto's less than stellar relationship with beige precast.
Hopefully the final product achieves the desired outcome. I'll likely be skeptical until I see it.
Also interesting to see how the final towers turned out.
At one point no other project led to more speculation than the final Cityplace tower.
Looking back, I think we expected something much different than this.
Why did they decide on beige panels? Hard to see them aging well.
I'm curious why they went with this particular design choice. The original rendering was a lot cleaner and probably would've been more practical too.
I don't mind the design, but can't help but feel I should be more impressed for a $1 billion project.
Hard to justify it being smaller than the existing Science Centre.
Between this and the bare-bones East Harbour transit hub I'm not sure many cities are better at flubbing these once-in-a-generation blank slate opportunities.
Because one of the main reasons this extension is being built this way is as rejection of above-ground transit.
At the time, anything that wasn't a subway was seen as unfair to Scarborough, especially if it involved a transfer.
I recall discussions about the cost ballooning (or doubling) were...
