From this picture is actually looks somewhat decent. This photo does a good job hiding all the horizontal and vertical siding slats. If they actually used some half decent materials (I would even take stucco) it could have looked a lot better.

They should of just built an actual fountain or water feature. The Stampede grounds are as dry and dusty as you can get. Would it kill this city to build a few more water features? Imagine if this sculpture actually had water coming out from it and falling into a pool below it. Instant upgrade.

The city should do a massive Elm planting in and around downtown and then actually WATER and maintain them. Where they have done this (East Village, 12th Ave) they are starting to build a nice tree canopy. Spend a few million and get the core green!

Meah. The more I look at it the more unimpressed I am. You can tell that this design was heavily influenced by the aboriginal design firm on the team. To me, the excessive use of wood slats is to make it resemble a tipi or longhouse to some degree. It seems bulky and heavy which I find...

I was a bit confused by the article, so they will break ground on the expansion part, but will they also do Olympic Plaza/Stephen Ave at the same time? I know the renovation to the existing building is Phase 2 and still need some funding, but I wasn’t sure the overall plan for this year.

I really like this one. I think the material they used for the black is cheap as hell, but overall this one is awesome. UD is shaping up to be a crown jewel in Calgary.

Make the roof black and not blue and we have a winner!

The only way to make EV attractive again is to remove the DIC. Having that facility there will only ensure the area remains cluttered with homeless people strewn about all the park benches, druggies shooting up in broad daylight, and undesirables harassing the locals and committing illegal...

Rogers Place is absolutely atrocious at street level. Outside of Oiler games, there is literally no reason to walk by the arena as there is zero street retail. If the Flames can properly activate the EC on 12th Ave and along Stampede Trail as is envisioned, it would automatically blow Roger's...

I like the darkness of this one so far, it's something different. I thought there were rumors Concord 2 would start up. Finishing that building would really help this part of downtown.

    Calgary | Eau Claire Market Redevelopment | 135.02m | 35s | Harvard Developments

Eau Clare is going to be a bleak hellhole for a few years for sure. The plaza is still not complete, and by the spring the mall will be demolished. Who knows when construction will ever start on the Green Line and nothing will be built by Harvard for a while.

I agree. Would it be better with some retail? Yes, but i think this is a really cool design and something very unique to the city if they pull off the materials properly. If this gets built along with Imperia down the block, this area will become pretty dense and active. Retail could soon follow...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I think part of the problem is that many of the trees in Olympic Plaza are spruce. These get really big, and as Duck mentioned, block a lot of viewpoints and create little shelters for homeless people to camp under. If all the trees were large elms or other deciduous trees with a high canopy...
