The Star has some new pictures of the latest iteration of the project: http://www.thestar.com/photos/2014/05/27/a_peek_at_the_new_gehry_mirvish_project.html

It would be short-sighted if that were the case, but it's not. There is language written in the ECLRT RFP that requires the winning bidder to design Kennedy Station so as to allow for eastwards expansion of the Crosstown.

The website also doesn't show Oakwood or Avenue Rd. The stations exist.

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Why should Toronto rename any of its subway lines after famous figures or aspects of Canadian history or culture? Just because it's "cooler" and less "boring"? I'll take functionality and easy navigation for $600, Alex.

Agreed. Torontonians should demand and receive high-quality architecture, not just whatever a developer and their 3rd rate architecture consultant bandies in front of us. I hope the DRP rejects the tower portion and opts for a re-design. As it is, the upper half of the tower appears really...

Time to get rid of the TTC

It costs the TTC more to transport a person from Union to Yonge/Steeles than from Union to Yonge/Bloor. Do you agree? Yes or no?

Funny then that setbacks on tall buildings were formally codified in Manhattan to mitigate and maximize sunlight.

City cracks down on "illegal" Food Trucks

There's a misleading and false dichotomy in that argument that doesn't acknowledge the fact that food trucks not only add to the vibrancy and depth of the food and restaurant industry, but can also create new markets and users in that industry. I think truck owners and people who frequent them...

City cracks down on "illegal" Food Trucks

Cost? Convenience? Speed? Taste? I've had some incredible food truck food in Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Much better than what you can find in "sanitary" restaurants in Toronto. It's like trying to describe the colour blue to the blind. Unless you've seen/had it, you don't know...

VIA Rail cuts services in Southern Ontario

The Capitol Corridor and Surfliner are operated and funded by Amtrak California, which is a subdivision of Caltrans rather than the US Feds' Amtrak. Thus they can kind of do whatever they want re: funding and service. Kind of lends credence to the idea of Ontario and Quebec taking over VIA and...

Costs & Advantages of Bus Rapid Transit

The GAO's report doesn't claim that operating costs are lower for BRT vs LRT as disingenuously stated by the video's narrator, rather that there were "mixed results". The report is found here: http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d01984.pdf

The larger rendering makes me dislike it even more. What a thoughtless unremarkable design for such a prominent location.

Or 3000 feet for that matter? Why not 4000????

    Toronto Bike Share

I've worked on implementing a bike sharing system and the cost estimates that we got per bike for BIXI were in the range of $5500/bike, and this was before the costs of acquiring any needed land for the stations or making any bike path/lane improvements. SoBi bikes are much cheaper because you...
