Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Thing is there's already a relatively straight rail row there right now. The Havelock subdivision. Though this routing misses much of the population centres in Durham. A new N-S row would be needed to connect to either of the lakeshore row's

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Having a car can pose a problem when looking for a hotel with parking in the downtown core.

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Sorry for the lack of clarity. My preference has always been for a lakeshore alignment, but I see enough value in Peterborough as a destination to justify a second line there. So to better answer the question. Regardless of route chosen for ALTO there is still much value in the lakeshore/401...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Though my main preference has always been for a southern alignment first. Peterborough is still a valuable destination that, in any other jurisdiction would justify it's own line as well.

Building a new rail corridor 'along' the 401 would require expropriation as well. No? I guess as long as it's not 'their' land that's being expropriated it's 'ok'. Edit to add. It can be argued that the environmental impact and property acquisition would be more disruptive on a 401 routing...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Nah more like a group of people who get together on Sunday mornings to play street hockey at an old abandoned parking lot, complaining that they weren't consulted when the parking lot gets redeveloped into a new arena. The only difference is that the snowmobile association has a semi official...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Sorry but there is always going to be some special interest group that comes out of the woodwork to oppose any project. Expecting the consultants to know EVERY group that should be contacted is an impossible task. I mean come on, a recreation snowmobilers association? What next? Friends of...

    Canadian airline industry (general discussion)

LOL. An example of an area where Canada is the free market and the US is the state funded. Private airports that receive government funding/support. I'm not saying which system is the system, and our government (any government) is tasked with juggling multiple sometimes conflicting goals at...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

There's nobody living in the western GTA who is going to flying out of bb. Unless maybe they work in the city. There's no city served by BB that isn't served by Pearson and is more convenient to access.

    Canadian airline industry (general discussion)

Though I generally agree. It's important to note that the US has 10x the population as ours and similar'ish land area (once you remove the large uninhabitable areas in the North/Arctic). The airports have more passengers to draw fees from and so each passenger pays a lower fee. Our busiest...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

Finally got around to listening to it and found the coverage quite thin. I can sum up their coverage as this: - Trains good, they are efficient but also only foamers like trains - Alto announced by the Carney government - Shock! There are people protesting the project. Some call them NIMBY's...

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

That's not much of a data set. And ironically, what data is there seems to follow an existing (though apparently unused) rail corridor

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

The Ontario Line was Ford's pet project that came out of his refusal to use the existing DRL plan. Which at the time Ford first took power was well along the way in planning. And it did receive criticism, both from Torontonians who were affected by the construction (see Riverdale and Osgoode)...

    Billy Bishop Airport Expansion?

If anything. Ford has demonstrated that if there's a project that he get's behind it receives priority treatment and gets built. See Ontario Line.
