No - but we should!

There have been 'sushi trains' in Edmonton before, including one at WEM and one on the Southside off Calgary trail over the years (maybe more).
There was another one near the old Days Paint space across from MacEwan a few years ago, before the building was demolished for the LRT.

They are building a 'greenhouse' type structure on the roof, presumably for a rooftop patio.

Openings
  • Thanks to Tracy for the heads up that Edmonton is getting its first omakase-focused restaurant called MS-SM (they have two other locations in Toronto). It will be located at 10111 104 Avenue, the former Cacao 70 space in Ice District.
  • Twice Cream has opened their second location in Sherwood Park, at #120, 75 Salisbury Way.
  • The Whole Scoop has opened a pop-up (its fourth location) in St. Albert at 165 Liberton Drive in the Salvation Army parking lot.
  • I had missed the March opening of Strom Coffee, located at 7255 104 Street. It is a “little piece of Sweden”, offering a “wonderful blend of Swedish tradition and Canadian hospitality.”
  • Paris Baguette’s West Edmonton Mall location is now open in Phase II by the Starlight Casino.

Openings
  • PlayWright, a restaurant from MilkCrate’s Steve Brochu, is now open in the Citadel Theatre! I wrote about the story behind the restaurant back in March.
  • Chai Lounge is now open in the former Tres Carnales space at 10119 Rice Howard Way.
  • Culinary Unicorn is latest restaurant taking over a revolving door in the Matrix Hotel, at 10009 107 Street.

Tried PlayWright on Saturday, very promising. The shortribs are amazing, melt in your mouth on a very rich buttery bed of potatoes. Had a bunch of sides as well very tasty. They attracted a chef that was recently at Bundock. Will be going back again.

Note - they have a private side room with secret access that is kinda cool.

124th has definitely had some wind taken out of its sails the past year or so after gaining so much momentum over the last few years. Losing all the office workers from AHS/Telus in Plaza 124 + Lloyd Sadd likely has been hurting some daytime businesses there

I went for a walk on 124st yesterday during my lunch break and agree it's looking really sparse. It's generally been one of downtowns bright spots over the last few years but seems to be on an overall downward trajectory.

Kind of strange considering downtown in general has seemed to be gaining some momentum again (a huge part thanks to the Oilers playoff run).

Ebb and flow as it's likely a lot of the same people who choose between 124th or downtown proper. 124th improved in the same timeline that downtown's patronage was caving.
