Meanwhile, over at the gigantic ramp in Riverdale:
Any bike lane development is good news, but I still don’t understand this one. I guess it will let training riders go to the end of Adelaide and loop around to go back along Richmond.I drove by Power Street along Adelaide yesterday and looks like there is work happing on the intersection and bike lanes there!
Are they really extending the Adelaide bike lane the 100 yards from Parliament to Power? I think they planned to do sidewalk work at Adelaide and Power but bike lane in that block seems a bit foolish since bikes cannot go east of Power as it’s the Gardiner on ramp.Any bike lane development is good news, but I still don’t understand this one. Bikes can go east of Power. While motor vehicles can continue on that overpass to access the DVP on-ramp from Eastern, there is no prohibition on bicycles and I've definitely used it to access Eastern Ave from Adelaide on a bike. Are they really extending the Adelaide bike lane the 100 yards from Parliament to Power? Too scary for me!Bikes can go east of Power. While motor vehicles can continue on that overpass to access the DVP on-ramp from Eastern, there is no prohibition on bicycles and I've definitely used it to access Eastern Ave from Adelaide on a bike.
It wasn't great, but I haven't tried it again since ot the recent construction though so no comment on the current infrastructure.
If still in the state it was in then, I wouldn't do it now. I would have taken the lane and counted on being seen, but the way people are distracted behind the wheel these days I'm more inclined to jog up Power to Queen to cross the river.Too scary for me!
The sidewalk on the south side of the Eastern Avenue bridge HAS been widened from the DVP entrance to the ramp leading to Lower River Street and it is a mixed use pathway of decent width now. There are photos of it on the bridge thread SEE https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/eastern-avenue-bridge-dvp-interchange.34569/page-3I looked into the Eastern/Adelaide reconstruction issue......

With the admonition that the docs I look at are not always 100% accurate and up to date.........the work here, in 2025 shows as entirely on Power Street, rather than Adelaide.
Power will create a loop/connection between Richmond and Adelaide, and access to both from points south/north as the case may be.

However, this will probably not go west past the ramp
(or only if they take a traffic lane).
Hard to see how cyclists on Adelaide would safely use it.as they would need to cross Adelaide to get to it.
I suspect the 'Future Construction" dotted line on the plan above will not be built for MANY years, if ever.
I defer to your opinion.I know.
It will.
They won't
The Eastern Avenue bridge sidewalk/MUP will follow Adelaide on the south side, not Eastern, the Adelaide connection passes over Eastern Avenue's on-ramp.
It will be built when the ramp is reconstructed. The existing paved deck is ~9.3M wide. One 3.3M car lane with one 3M car lane, leaves 3.0M for an MUP with no other changes. I don't know, but I imagine you may see a very small widening of the deck to allow room for the concrete barrier between traffic and pedestrians. There is room, for a 1M widening w/o issue, provided the existing abutments can support it.

The Bentway people are getting more serious about the7km MUP they want under the Gardiner

For years, the spaces beneath the Gardiner Expressway have been developed in fragments, resulting in short trail segments and disconnected public spaces. The Under Gardiner Public Realm Plan aims to address the current gaps by outlining a cohesive roadmap for improvements along the corridor...thebentway.ca
