Its been almost one year and not one home has been built under Carney's home building plan - just more nonsense, inaction and broken promises. Total fail.

@AaronGunn

Just found out Liberal MP Taleeb Noormohamed publicly questioned my patriotism and loyalty to Canada.Well, while Taleeb was busy flipping homes in Vancouver and living in the United States, I was serving in Canada's military.And while Taleeb and his Liberals were busy tearing down Canadian history, I was fighting to defend it.I will take no lectures on patriotism from Liberals like Taleeb.

I don't know where Canada's standard of living is headed, but it's probably going to stay roughly the same. Maybe it goes up or down a bit. The US on the other hand might be "an innovation, manufacturing, soft and hard power superpower" today but they are headed for decline. Even after Trump is gone, he's done irreparable damage. It's not even Trump directly, also the fact that the world got to see 70 million people re-elect him after the previous gong show.
So you think the USA is heading for a decline? Based on what - wishful thinking from anti-USA TDS Canadians? The USA has a GDP of 31 trillion a. year compared to 19 trillion a year for China. Remember when China was supposedly catching up to the USA and was going to become the world's largest GDP? Those days are over. The USA, as I said before is an economic and cultural juggernaut - it can get messy sometimes because it is a hyper competitive democracy, but it is still the innovation and economic primate country in the world - plus military leader as well. Pretty easy for some anti-American to think it will "decline" and Canada will be fine - such nonsense. All the thumbs up you got for this simplistic and ignorant "analysis" show what many people on this forum are like. Hilarious - maybe stop watching the CBC and listening to "At Issue" and try and get some more sophisticated and measured information.

You are right - you're vote is worth the same as mine. However, as an Albertan your federal vote is worth about 60% of what an Atlantic Canadian vote is worth and less than every other province in Canada. Alberta, despite being the economic engine of Canada for many decades, has unsurprisingly the worst voter - to HOC seat ratio in the country while Liberal depedency stronghold like the Maritimes has the best ratio. What a surprise. Eventually the youth in this country will start to take more ownership through political action and start voting more and when they do the Liberals are toast.
As one of those boomers who supported Carney over your apple munching PP (and who would spoil my ballot before voting for JT) you’re not going to make me change my mind no matter how many consecutive insults you string together in as many consecutive posts as you choose to make.

My opinion of Carney is based on my knowledge of his prior experiences and performances and on his policies and ability to implement them. PP can crunch as many apples as he wants while insulting the people he’s talking to but until he presents actual policies and a plan to execute them that are better than Carney’s he’ll never get my vote. I strongly suspect that will be never and that’s coming from a traditional PC voter.

PS My “boomer vote” Is worth just as much as yours - but no more and no less than yours - and vice versa. Get over it.

Yet Alberta still has 16% more seats in Parliament than the four Atlantic provinces combined and that’s before the next redistribution. And your numbers ignore the fact Alberta’s population has increased more than 17% since the 2021 census which determined the last restriction. In the last 5 years some 800,000 people have decided Alberta is treated so badly in Confederation that they moved here as opposed to anywhere else in Canada.

Yes, we are so badly treated and doing so poorly that many people elsewhere in Canada apparently still want to move here. Go figure.

ATB is forecasting a favorable CAD-USD exchange rate trajectory in 2026-2027, as investors trim U.S. asset exposure. That being said, it's not because the Canadian dollar is doing well - we're performing like absolute shit. All it means is that the US dollar, which is generally our gold-standard barometer, is doing worse than we are.

I think that Mark Carney is maneuvering to make the Canadian Dollar more of a benchmark currency -- not an easy thing to do -- but he has the talent, the connections, and the resume to do it. I, for one, am paying very close attention; I have CDN vs USD baked into a monthly program.

I buy hedged securities to avoid FX volatility, but besides that, I figure ignorance is bliss.

I highly doubt this. It also would put Canada at a disadvantage in a competitive global commodities market as benchmarking currencies is generally tied to higher valuation.

Given our proximity to the US and that the bulk of our trade is with it, the US trajectory is what matters most. Canada actually probably does want its currency to go down some against others to boost trade diversification.

Well I suppose politically we could sort of be like the Swiss, attractive because we are more stable. but I don't think economically as much because we are too impacted by our nearby neighbour.
