The UCP may have taken on some of their ideas, but I don't think there are really a lot of the old Socreds are left now. Someone who was 18 and voted for them in the last election they won would be over 75 now.
Which is neither that old nor as disconnected as you’re implying! :)

^ This just shows the mentality of the traitors we're dealing with. Most I'm sure will be cheering on Canada at the Olympics too.

While I would like to believe this is a case of gullible people with grievances being stirred up by opportunistic politicians, there is also a history of this sort of thing not ending well.

Fire up the speculation. Spring election? Just a nothing-burger budget address? Pipeline announcement?
Interesting. I continue to be amazed by the insight into Alberta politics that comes from the GTA. After all, wasn't it another paper from there that broke the private health care clinics story and all the allegations around the firing of the former AHS CEO? They seem to have insight and candor that for some reason our local media sometimes lack or are reluctant to put forth.

It could be good strategy for the UCP to have an election before a divisive referendum, but are they going to run a Federalist or Separatist party?

Pretty sure it'll just be an attempt to set the narrative around a budget with huge deficit. Gives them a week to say what they want before the opposition sees it.

It was on Global news with her direct quote

There haven’t been a lot of party candidates (outside of incumbents) nominated for the next election.

In the meantime, in British Columbia the deficit for the fiscal year that ends in March is set to be a record-breaking $9.6-billion and it is projected to jump to $13.3-billion next year and Ontario will not achieve its target of as balanced budget for this year.

Neither is surprising but it will allow Smith to try and look good in comparison while trying to avoid taking responsibility for the outcomes she drives in Alberta.

Global has been better than some, but I was thinking more of the local print media who used to have good provincial coverage.

I just checked their site and their top local news apparently is baby names, but perhaps there is something beyond their paywall.

Well it is easy to look good financially next to BC these days. Although Ontario population is over 3 times larger than ours, so comparatively that would be $4 billion or so.

On the other side Saskatchewan's deficit is around $430 million, so I don't think we'll beat that, even after adjusting for the population difference.

I've heard from some insiders that it's essentially a free sample of next week's budget announcement. So the nothing burger potential is reasonably high.
