really not much of a masterpiece, but it’s one of those things that feels like an “upgrade” for the airport

Doubt that people would want to stay here when there’s better hotels downtown, although I suspect that people looking for cheap bookings will want to stay here instead. Will be curious to see how long it lasts
what city do you know that people stay at a airport hotel over anything located at a more central location?

A couple years ago i went to Orlando on Porter.I was talking to the staff on the plan and they were from Toronto and said many Toronto crews perfer flying out of Ottawa as the flights are more calm.My point if i think the hotel will be a big appeal to Toronto crews etc big time.

It's convenient for people with early flights, or when flights are severely delayed or cancelled. It also gives the airport an important new amenity to attract more flights.

If the other hotels near the airport are doing well, I imagine this one will do even better.

Yeah it's a no brainer coming in from out of town from places like North Bay, Petawawa, Kingston, etc for early flights. With all of these Porter direct flights I'd bet we are grabbing people from Hawksbury and Cornwall who would have gone to MTL for a flight. Ottawa is such a breeze to fly in and out of.

yes, although one more hotel next to the airport is not going to change that. People who are travelling with international flights are still going to want to go directly to Montreal because it’s much cheaper and easier to do

the Hotel that connects to YUL, works because Montreal is a busy hub for both domestic and international flights, and it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere (until the REM connection gets built in 1-2 years). unless you’re flying domestic (which gets fairly minimal traffic) then you’re still going to be driving to Montreal or Toronto in order to take an international flight

It's not just one more hotel next to the airport, it's the first one directly connected to the airport. Not having to take the shuttle (pack up, wait, tip the guy), it's much easier to just walk into the airport.

Ottawa does have some international flights. That number keeps going up and having this hotel is just another way to attract those flights to Ottawa. With HSR opening in a decade, YOW needs more international flights as domestic volumes between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal will go down.
