  1. Q

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

If tunneling under the 404 is to happen regardless, and so many people are determined the Sheppard subway go to Victoria Park, why not stay with the heavy rail technology and make the transfer to LRT underground at Victoria Park? The cost difference would be minimal and the beef those people...
  2. Q

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

Just as a reminder, Stinz's February 5 motion has the SRT continuing on to Sheppard. So yes the SELRT will connect to STC and Centennial College, which by the way has 16,000 full-time and 22,000 part-time students.
  3. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

Maybe a picture will help restore some sanity to the debate. This image comparing the Sheppard East LRT with the subway was created by the Globe & Mail. There are apartment complexes at the major intersections all along Sheppard. As well the University of of Scarborough exists east of...
  4. Q

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

The Sheppard East LRT line, if built prior to the SRT shut down, has the ability to provide for some (not all) of the lost east/west capacity between the core and Scarborough. No it's not the same route, but could be useful to a meaningful portion of SRT riders.
  5. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

Presumably Tridel has not sold all the condo units for the possible 16 buildings at Metrogate. While a subway would make the development more likely to happen, I'd rather it not be built with taxpayers money at 4x the price when the demand on Sheppard only warrants an LRT line. I generally don't...
  6. Q

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

Is there a possibility that SELRT could still be built before the SRT is taken out of service? Wasn't this the plan under Transit City?
  7. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

Sorry but in one sentence you say depending on interest Tridel could build as few as 6 or as many as 16 buildings. And then in the very next sentence you say a subway through Metrogate wouldn't be subsidizing the developer. But what exactly is it that determines whether there are fewer buildings...
  8. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

With their lacky mayor's promotion of a white elephant subway in trouble, finally the "special interests" councilor Doug Ford alluded to at the February 8th meeting come scurrying out of their holes. Of course Leo DelZotto, CEO of Tridel, wants a subway. The 2,100 unit Metrogate community he's...
  9. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

The poor decision-making Rob Ford is forcing on City of Toronto in both his public comments and transit planning is remarkably similar to the former Mayor Mel Lastman. Mayor Rob Ford has the promise of being far more destructive because of $billions currently on the table. Hopefully there wont...

Fords Working to Fire Webster, Stintz, Scrap Streetcars: Star

+1. I thought it was odd that during the special council meeting on transit, Doug Ford' said there were "special interests" at work. He suspects special interests working against subways. I think it's just as likely there are unseen interests driving the Fords' ideology.
  11. Q

Fords Working to Fire Webster, Stintz, Scrap Streetcars: Star

This may warrant a letter to your councilor and/or the transit commission board. Here's mine. Dear Councilor Cho, There have been local news reports suggesting the TTC Commission Board has called a special meeting in order to terminate General Manager Gary Webster's contract. I wanted to let...
  12. Q

    King / Queen LRT Circuit

Your assumption would be wrong. But you can assume I suffer from brain cramps now and again and sometimes coinciding with more regular flights of fancy.
  13. Q

    King / Queen LRT Circuit

I guess that is a wrinkle.
  14. Q

    King / Queen LRT Circuit

Here's an image of the lane plan. 4 lanes lanes of automobile traffic, one lane of parking and one lane of dedicated transit on each of King and Queen.
  15. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

This may be true. I'm thinking of specifically of transit riders who tend to avoid buses in favour of rail, and preferrably rail in dedicated lanes. It may be that some riders already taking the 190 would prefer to continue with their familiar route.
  16. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

More important is that a Sheppard subway extension from Don Mills to STC is forecast to cost approximately $4 billion of money that no one knows how to pay for using a technology that is far too intensive than the population warrants. The SELRT is expeted to cost 25% of that cost, is paid for...
  17. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

I would have to disagree. As someone who used to live very near Summerhill subway station, I was more likely to take two transfers, at Yonge/Bloor and then St. George, to get to Yorkdale mall than I was to take a bus across or even the St. Clair streetcar as it was then in mixed traffic. I see a...
  18. Q

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

The plan for the SRT replacement, as passed by council last week, now includes taking the line to Sheppard just east of Markham Rd, creating a connection to STC. For riders going between NYCC and STC, McCowan would have been more direct. However existing right-of-ways and the McCowan car yard...
  19. Q

    Transit City Plan

Why so angry hombre? Certainly if you'd support a subway on Sheppard, you wouldn't mind saving $3 billion by using LRT instead. With council's motion to bring the SRT up to Sheppard, there will be an east interchange that would have been at the city centre. Go SELRT Go!
  20. Q

    King / Queen LRT Circuit

In 2007 the TTC had a scheme to create dedicated lanes on King Street but it failed, I think, because of opposition from storefront business owners. I'm curious if more people could be moved by one dedicated streetcar lane on King and Queen than two lanes of mixed traffic on each street. Were...
