    Toronto Toronto | Leslie Barns | ?m | ?s | TTC | SAI

The Quebec inquiry into construction corruption is yet to begin. Do you have privileged information or is this just defamation?

Are pedestrian malls the future or the relic of antiquated thinking?

You can call it a road closure if you want to. It was closed in 2003, and stayed that way. ;)

Are pedestrian malls the future or the relic of antiquated thinking?

I respectfully disagree. Here's an image of Hong Kong's night market, a pedestrian mall on Sai Yeung Choi Street. I think pedestrian-only areas can work in big and small cities, and anything in between. They are long overdue in Toronto.

Are pedestrian malls the future or the relic of antiquated thinking?

Here's an image of the Burlington VT pedestrian-only Church Street mall from last spring. I arrived toward dusk and it was largely empty but during the daytime, or when warmer, I can see how it would be well appreciated. I was impressed by the quality of the city infrastructure (downtown) for...

    Transit City Plan

The stop is supposed to feed both Sunnybrook Park and Hospital. They are both destinations in and of themselves and together I thought they warranted a slight detour off the road network. I'd like to think we are building for the next 100 years. Who knows in that amount of time how important it...
  8. Q

    Transit City Plan

I would challenge this argument. Transit City has been reopened rightly or wrongly. Given that it's now an open discussion, it's not only the SUV-addicted mayor and transit bureaucrats that need to be part of the conversation. It's Toronto. Remember TC took how many years to plan and consult...

    Transit City Plan

here's an adjustment and some detail down to the bus level. i think if you get frequent light rail service, it allows you to reduce the number of required bus lines, and their complexity. the spacing was just me thinking about where bus lines might interact with rail lines...but nonetheless if...

    Transit City Plan

Drum, I tried out this service and received what I think are prepared statements from councillors Grimes and Fragedakis. Thank you. This suggests to me that, at least for these councillors, Transit City and its potential cancellation has become a big issue. I would encourage any users who would...

    Transit City Plan

By all means please share your improvements. With the many enthusiasts on this forum, it would not surprise me if Urban Toronto's users could plan and cost a system better than whatever the politicos at city hall will come up with. Has anyone wiki'd a transit system before?

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I apologize if this repeats a previous question. With the implementation of a card system, presto or otherwise, how many ticket takers per station can be eliminated? This is not belligerence; I would expect one of the prime benefits of presto is for taxpayers to realize some efficiencies in...

    Yonge Line Weekend Shutdowns....

What a forward thinking idea. Can we also remove the people mover between lines at Spadina so we don't have to maintain it anymore? "We did that already." Oh yeah, right.
  14. Q

    Transit City Plan

One of the biggest cognitive problems with the TTC and transit planning in this city is that its designers don't think about the WHOLE network, just little pieces. Just because a majority of the people who chose to reply to an "either or" survey on a discussion board doesn't mean the topic isn't...
  15. Q

    Transit City Plan

For me, it has been WAY too long since any of the city's media organizations, those that supposedly report our news, have reported any real news about this $9 billion or so transit project. That's a lot of money and somebody should getting the details out instead of printing puff pieces like...
  16. Q

    Transit City Plan

I would agree that Ford's 50% mandate was to squeeze waste out of city hall, not kill Transit City. So far he's eliminated some taxes, i.e. reduced the city's revenue line, with the elimination of vehicle permit tax. He's also pushing for a reduction in library and bus services. I think it will...
  17. Q

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

I have to agree that a seamless subway connection, i.e. HRT, connection from STC to Bloor Danforth makes oodles more sense than extending Sheppard as a subway. Sheppard only makes sense as surface LRT in a RoW. Building a subway on that stretch is like throwing hundreds of millions of dollars...
