    Toronto Toronto | Grove Condos | 19.91m | 6s | Presidential | CMV

Add this to the list of challenged developments at Queen & Pape.

    Jarvis and Dundas

Pop Coffee Works and Mast Coffee Bar around the corner are really good options.

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

Sorry, I didn't flesh out that thought. The Longos location is new and probably staffed by a less experienced barista compared to the others. Anyway, I think Arvo might be reopening in one of the new office buildings on Atlantic some time in the future.

I looked into this because Jacked Up is usually top notch (in terms of Melbourne/Oslo standards). The truck that used to be parked outside the LV West Elm is the one that moved to Metro Hall about a year ago. The one now in Longos is a new third truck.

    St Lawrence Market

They've been flushing money down the toilet for decades by closing at 6PM.

    Toronto Toronto | East United Condos | 82.6m | 24s | SigNature | Giannone Petricone

The "brick" on the Parliament Street side looks worse than brick veneer on the Shoppers Drug Mart up the street. Truly atrocious in person.

Could this be a predatory pricing strategy targeting Organic Garage on Hanna Ave?

    St Lawrence Market

I recall that Fit For Life, the previous occupant, and another extremely out-of-date francise, took an inexplicably long time to open as well. It felt like it was open for business for LESS TIME than it took just gearing up to open, but that might just be my perception.

If you're interested, I know the guy who runs this Urban Adventures craft beer walking tour, and he's always looking for guides. I highly recommend the tour as well, for anyone seeking to make the jump from bad beer to good beer. It's also fun if you're a BeerAdvocate member with 1,000+...

Billy's Diner at Queen & Pape has closed. Here's a note from the owner:

New historical plaque about the Underground Railroad attached to the Daniels condo east of Queen & Logan. Interesting story here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/new-plaque-honours-black-community-that-helped-forge-the-identity-of-leslieville-1.5364692

    Toronto Toronto | 133 Queen East | 130.1m | 40s | IBI Group

Right, I hope the bougie condo yuppies will respect the recovering addicts. I would expect that these new developments will integrate more or less the same as those in Riverside and Leslieville, where similar services are provided.

A redevelopment destined to become "luxury" condos/rentals won't do much to ease that crisis. Le Sélect is an institution that has produced, among other talents, Matty Matheson, who is perhaps the city's biggest celebrity right now.

Word on the street is Domino's Pizza will open in the old Florabunda location at Queen & Larchmount Ave, which closed due to a big rent increase.

    Toronto Toronto | Queen & Ashbridge | 60.15m | 17s | Context Development | Teeple Architects

Not sure, but Context was also chosen to manage the TCHC component of the Lawrence Heights redevelopment and the design consortium for that project was Tact Design / KPMB Architects / IBI Group / MBTW. They actually hosted a tour of that development for tenants of Don Summerville last year. If...

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

Non-stick coatings can't handle the high heat necessary for a proper stir-fry and ingredients won't develop a good sear. They just slide around and steam, and the result is a wet and disappointing stir-fry. It's a waste of the good produce they're using.

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

Farm Boy's frozen pizza dough is great and their store brand pizza sauce (both ~$2) is good as well. I also recommend the kefir masala dip and the toasted pita crackers. The flavoured variety made in-store, not the boxed ones. The stir fry counter cooks with non-stick pans, so don't bother...

Enjoy the fritters while you can, because the owner was told that her lease wouldn't be renewed past April 2021. I think the building has been sold.
