    VIA Rail

I was thinking, maybe the feds could use Quebec-Montreal as a Trojan horse for energy east.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

New Orleans, continuously operating since... before the TTC.

    VIA Rail

If you also look at CN and VIA's corridor operations, and the CN corridors where Amtrak trains operate, there are maintenance issues. Riding from Toronto to London, the signalling system is so fragile that it doesn't work in sections if the weather gets a little worse. If you look at the capital...

    VIA Rail

I think that the Amtrak stats demonstrate that CN is especially bad in terms of delaying passenger trains and that the Hunter Harrison effect doesn't fully explain the delays given that he also ran CP and CSX which don't seem to experience this issue to the same degree. Looking deeper into the...

    VIA Rail

CN has been responsible for the second most number of freight train interference minutes for on Amtrak years now. If this was really a capacity problem it should have been fixed by now. It doesn't really matter if you categorise a train as P001 or P002 if you treat it like a tourist train (for...

    VIA Rail

A CN retiree who sat next to me on the train told me they categorized it as a tourist train. He also told me that he takes the Canadian twice a year. Also CN's freight can't be as delayed because their trains are too long to sit on the short sidings that the Canadian has to sit on.
  7. L

    VIA Rail

CN categorizes it as a tourist train and that's the reason it's always delayed.

    VIA Rail

They did renovate the HEP2s to have the same interior as the LRCs (although they're just as bumpy as before), and the HEP1s are great to sleep in.

The thing is that people literally take the Canadian for the Budd coaches and their historical significance. The Canadian isn't the Canadian without them.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Just saying, they also contracted some of the code (for the HHPOS) at least to freelance devs in India.

    VIA Rail

This probably sounds really trivial, but I just ordered a Table d'hote. An old lady across from me wanted a tea, but the service attendant passed by way to quickly. I ordered my meal with the service manager as she was scanning tickets. Service manager brings me my porchetta and coca cola, and...

Yup, HEP1 in front HEP2 Club Car in the back.

    VIA Rail

They replaced the HEPII with an LRC (last week at least), so its slightly better now.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The apps on both cards are probably very similar if not the same since PRESTO and London Transit both chose Scheidt & Bachmann as a vendor. The card reader was probably trying to query my student card thinking that it was a PRESTO card when it wasn't. The software on the readers on London...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

It wasn't the card it was student ID they were looking for. At Western University your student card is your bus pass on London transit. And you have to tap your card on the card reader just like with PRESTO (it's the same model of reader btw). I had both card in the same holder once, and the...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I probably should so that I notionally get my $6 back. Regardless, unreasonableness by fare inspectors causes people to want to piss them off. This, in turn, creates the culture of fare evasion we see.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

This is partly why I started ignoring them when they ask for my Presto card at subway stations. A couple of weeks ago, I was on crutches and they asked me to let them scan my Presto Card at Union at 11 pm after I got off my delayed VIA Rail train. They then asked me for my Student ID which was...

    VIA Rail

I think that the current order is for the corridor, and that the cars for HFR are a seperate option (assuming HFR even happens).

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Yup, didn't know that the Toronto Rockets could run on line 3, and that the lights for the intermediate stations could light up yellow.
