Waterfront Toronto considers selling naming rights

Please don't criticize Waterfront Toronto for this idea, they need more money for studies and consultants.

Likely some confusion on the architects because there are two media projects on the waterfront. Filmport's architects are Quadrangle for the most part, with one extra proposed building by Will Alsop. Filmport is the major film studio project on TEDCO lands in the Portlands where Toronto Film...

    East Bayfront: Parkside/Bayside/Dockside neighbourhoods Overview

Isn't it the silos near Parliament Street that are unsound (Victory Soy Mills)? I think the Toronto Museum silo's are at the foot of Bathurst St.

West Don Lands: District Energy Centre (Steven Holl Architects)

I wonder what location this building/facility is going to placed, anyone know? The media release doesn't mention a Design Competition or even an RFP. Does anyone know if there was a tender or proposal call for this by Waterfront Toronto?

    Lamport Stadium Redevelopment

Chris Hume wrote in the Star today about Liberty Village and its need for green space. He is quite right and getting rid of Lamport Stadium, which is a nearly useless expense for the city, would be a great first step. However, we need to avoid being knee-jerk. The best solution would...

    East Bayfront: Parkside/Bayside/Dockside neighbourhoods Overview

Syn, above, makes an interesting comment about how "indistinguishable" Project Symphony (Corus) is from the rest of the rendering. The Corus building is real and under construction, the rest of the rendering may never happen. Sherbourne Park was advertized by Waterfront Toronto in 2005 to be...

    East Bayfront: Parkside/Bayside/Dockside neighbourhoods Overview

aA is Architects Alliance. They are doing the condo development at the foot of Yonge Street for the Cityzen group. Its amazing that there is no public building or notable public space at the foot of Toronto's most important street. Probably another great achievement / failure of the $200+...

New Toronto Star article in today's paper: Latest waterfront fiasco: Umbrellas and sand pit TheStar.com - Columnist - Latest waterfront fiasco: Umbrellas and sand pit February 08, 2008 Christopher Hume Life may be a beach, but that doesn't mean the waterfront should be, too. So...

    Toronto Toronto | Corus Quay | ?m | 8s | Waterfront Toronto | Diamond Schmitt

Hmmm, I wonder what the chances are that much of the controversy and criticism about this Corus project is the result of a disorganized and scatter-brained Design Review Panel and its administration by Waterfront Toronto? Let's see what Christopher Hume has to say (emphasis added): Latest...

Once again many people such as YYZER and SeanTrans are just assuming the worst. The truth is that the Design Review Panel minutes are not posted yet (not even from the November 14 meeting that created such concern), so we can't be sure what is what. I find this very odd. The presentations...

    Toronto Toronto | Corus Quay | ?m | 8s | Waterfront Toronto | Diamond Schmitt

Maestro is quite correct. The Corus building is perfectly part of the waterfront precinct plan and we'll see that this Diamond minimalist approach -- assuming high quality materials and curtainwall -- will win praise at the end of the day. As noted many months ago, the use of that location...

Waterfront: Jarvis Slip Public Space Design Competition

Chris Hume has written an article saying he doesn't like the beach design. Imagine that, he is critical of something on the waterfront! HTO park does seem to be a success and perhaps worth emulating. It also interesting to note that it was the City and not Waterfront Toronto that created...

It looks like the main exterior changes from the last version was to: re-introduce the angled terraces on the top floors of the building; the addition of an extra floor to emphasize the step-back effect; and a more transparent atrium to allow better public view into the inside of the building.

Waterfront: Jarvis Slip Public Space Design Competition

The sugar company has been renting from TEDCO or the City the land for parking purposes that is becoming the parkette at Jarvis Slip and a portion of the waters edge. The press release is on the newswire and seems to be one of many transactions by TEDCO to eliminate obstacles to...

Does anybody know the status of the second phase? Doesn't the building phase near Redpath Sugar (east side) have to be built before anything can go forward at this site?

Alvino found a link to the waterfront review panel minutes. It is interesting that the institutional use is In Camera. Does anyone care that it is being withheld from public scrutiny?

    Toronto Toronto | Corus Quay | ?m | 8s | Waterfront Toronto | Diamond Schmitt

Smucky's got some fine renderings there of waterfront type buildings. Where are they from? Do any of them actually exist in real life, or more of the same old fantasy we have been conditioned to "expect" from many years of false promises on Toronto's waterfront.
