Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

The images of the Eaton Centre got me searching for more info on when it first opened and I came across a commerial that had this fountain at the south end. I have zero recolection and wonder how long it was there. From what I can tell it is where the elevators are now. Any idea when/why it was...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Although there is no date on this map, I think it is at least from the early 50's. I've found similar looking maps of Ottawa and Winnipeg online and they date from the mid-40s. Sorry about the wrinkles but it's been folded up for a few decades.

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

I live a block away and walk by a few times a week. I'm just waiting for the day that I see one of those big white NOTICE signs telling me that someone has applied to tear it down for 40 story condo or something. If that happens it will be a very sad day. I'm sure most people who read this...

Should Cities Sell Naming Rights to Transit Stations?

I think this is a good example of where the confusion would start. When I refer to the O'Keefe Centre people under 30 have no idea what I'm talking about. You mean the Hummingbird? Now its SONY. I'll occasionally see ads for a play or event coming to a local venu and have no idea where it is...

    a little variety, please ...

This commerical block at jane & Woolner sure has changed. When it was first built in the late 60's or very early 70's fronting Jane Street (as see in the first image) was a Mac's Milk (or was it Beckers?), The Burger Bar and a One Hour Martenizing dry cleaner. Around the side was another...

    a little variety, please ...

Parker's Variety was very tiny inside. The store was only the width of the window and door. You you couldn't get more than 3 or 4 people in the store at any one time! It was a great little place. I can only hope that the person living there is Mr. Parker who retired after many, many years of...

    G20 Week In Pix

Not the sort of images I was hoping to share. I know some won't agree, but I was very proud of our police force today.

I'm prety sure I remember it being a rebuild. If you look at the support colums, the layout looks to be identical.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

When I first found this site I saw this image and thought it looked familiar. Then I looked out my window :) Not exactly the same angle but its close enough to give you and idea that not much is the same.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

This is my first then/now post. I took the first picture of Yonge & Front in 1977 and the second in 2010. The building in the center was called 'The Film House' which has since had a sizeable addition added to the top. Front & Yonge - 1977 Front & Yonge - 2010

    More Lost Toronto in colour

The great image above of the Food Building prompted me to make my first post on this site. Here are two images that I took at the CNE around 1972 when I was 11. The first is of the Midway taken from the long gone Shell Tower. Its too bad they dismantled the the Alpine Way. The second image...
