So are the plants mandated by the condo board? What if I bought the unit on the fifth floor and decided to hang up my extensive collection of Diana memorial tea-towels instead?

That's an amazing picture, kris, MS Paint or not. Where's the original from?

Well, I know a thing or two about novelty (and check out my wrist-flexing action). I'd say that was a pretty good piece of satire - but it left out a reference to getting huffy about the size of one's post-count.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but what's the deal with the footings that look like excavated Roman columns? When did those go in? And why do they look all broken-off like that?

    Malware warning

Was getting it until yesterday, but all clear now! I find those warnings are usually not phoney - blog and forum software often gets targeted these days. So, thanks for getting to the bottom of it!

Taken from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I don't think even towerheads really want a 75, or 85, or 95 storey condo here. So close to the lake, it would stick out like a twig. A little bit of restraint in this area could go a long way.

From Traynor's render, it looks like a stubby x-acto knife, or maybe one of those retractable white erasers. Dignified stuff.

But where repeat where are the renders? The world wonders! If this was a competitive project, then polished designs must surely have been floating around for months now. Is this the Internet I knew as a child? One of you is sitting on them, I know it!

Saw the full light strip being... tested? the other night. Went all the way up the building, bottom to top. Unlike the CN Tower, whose LED lighting is muted because it's entirely reflected off internal surfaces (inside the elevator shafts, inside the microwave bubble, etc), Trump is just a...

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

Okay, riddle me this. A very expensive pedestrian link is already underway to the airport. Now, pedestrians can't cross the airfield, chiefly on account of whirling blades of death descending from above, and can't go around it, beacuse the runway extends the entire width of the island. To build...

In a city full of new point towers, it's all the more remarkable when a slab slips through. I like this material, but Market Wharf falls across the eastern skyline like a floodgate.

Yes, I think we'll keep this one. I worried we might have to send it back, but it will do just fine. Thank-you, Jenkins, that will be all.

Fair points, but I was careful not to say "modernist." A building can look clean without adhering to the modernists' particular definition of the term. As my wise uncle always pointed out, "timelessness" is just another fad - it's as subjective an idea as any.

This is the most non-descript of non-descript towers. I can't even descript it. Is it descriptable? Non. I ride past it every day and, seeing this thread, realized I have no idea where its construction is at or what it looks like. It's one thing to be clean and classy (see: RBC Dexia); it's...

Pure boxes can be striking, depending on how they're executed. Commerce Court is "just a box" in terms of its envelope, and it's a stunner. Conversely, look how classy a city looks when every building feels the need to distinguish itself from every other building, to the general detriment of all:

Toronto Reference Library Renovation (Moriyama + Teshima)

It needn't be a 70s phenomenon. Remember this? I wonder whether transparent library walls would be any more desirable than transparent museum walls where it comes to preserving a collection. Mostly, though, I'm amazed at the way the rendering perspectives for this project completely...
