Metrolinx: Bombardier Flexity Freedom & Alstom Citadis Spirit LRVs

I hope it feels noticeably bigger than 11 cm, because I find the Flexity streetcars to be awfully cramped inside. No room for internal circulation if one person is standing in the corridor, unlike the CLRV and ALRV models.

    New Transit Funding Sources

Wouldn't it be normal, if not beneficial for the terminus of a rapid transit line to have lighter ridership than the heart of the line? You can't plan a line with ridership being loaded by the time you leave the first station. Also, would an airport connection have the same peak periods as...

Drivers powerless against abuse, fare fraud

If we would just go to a fully POP system with timed transfers, drivers wouldn't have to worry about trying to catch fare evasion.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Holy hell is this awful urban design for a site mere metres from a subway station.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Depending on what we mean by "above ground", probably a hell of a lot cheaper to maintain, as well.

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

The gates showed up at Donlands over night. I'd wager they're installed by the end of the week, and then a few days or a week of testing before they're ready for use.

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

The screen was down at Donlands so I was able to take a look at progress this morning. Looks like all of the proper work had been done to the floors. The footings looked to be installed and the tile surrounding the new conduits, etc was replaced. The only thing missing is the actual gates...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Add in that they're massively improving the connection from Adelaide west of Bathurst to Adelaide east of Bathurst with this thing: http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2016/09/bathurst-adelaide-intersection-could-be-improved-bikes. Really helping to plug some gaps, eliminate some trouble spots. Good...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

4:01 pm, every day, parking enforcement is out ticketing on St. Clair, west of Yonge.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

It's been +18 in Thunder Bay the last few days. I'm sure they're enjoying the weather.

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

That's phenomenal. I found it strange they'd build second exits and not allow entrances as well. All of the planning for these pre-dates my time in Toronto, so I'm sure it was discussed way back then as well.

    TTC: New Fare Gate Installation

Pape – automatic entrance PRESTO available:Winter 2016 Where is the automatic entrance for Pape? Is it the entrance at the east end of the platform that is currently just a secondary exit? Good news if it will be converted to entrance as well as exit.

TTC: Bloor Danforth Line 2 West Extension(s)

This is one of my favourite straw man arguments. What percentage of people going to Best Buy do you think come out with a flat screen TV? Or even, anything they can't carry themselves?

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

What kind of luggage do you people use that "schlepping" it onto a low-floor, fully accessible LRT is some kind of undue burden? Millions of people travel to and from airports all over the world on public transit. I see people on buses, the subway, even streetcars with roller suitcases all of...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Crosslinx will be providing maintenance for 30 years, yes. That is not the same as operating transit service, of course. Maintenance of the structures and public areas deemed to be ECLRT responsibility will be provided by Crosslinx until the handover date in 30 years. (There are maps of...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

They don't have trouble giving adequate space in New York City, as an example. Yes it's a wide, one-way ROW, but they still managed to make safety the priority here. Just an example of what I might call a "well-designed" parking-protected bike lane. We've yet to design a bike lane as good as...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

My comment, again, was a general one about well-designed bike lanes, not Bloor specifically. I don't think the Bloor lanes are all that well-designed. They have a number of issues. The solution is to just get rid of parking and cede the extra space to the bicycle lanes and the sidewalks as...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

Weekday only rush hours account for 24% of all hours in a week, including overnight. Where did 5% come from?

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I said "well-designed," so I'm not sure where having restricted rights of way came from. :) It's just a matter of priorities. Cyclists lives are pretty far down the list in this town's current political climate.
