GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Technically it doesn't, I grant you. But would the corridor be electrified in advance of currently known planned grade separation work? Or would it make more sense, (as it would to me), to do whatever planned work is scheduled first, then electrify. Even if currently planned work does not...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Yes I get that it could. But if ML plans to separate, they wouldn't be planning to string up the catenary until all the planned work is done. And the track is as close to final configuration as possible. Or would they??

But isn't it the case that electrification of the line can't (or wouldn't) happen until all the separation work is done??

I wonder which would be cheaper. Running bigger trains all the time so passengers can spread out more or putting in all this plexiglass.

Maybe it’s just as well, because whenever I’m around Union, (usually at least once weekly) at least one of the existing escalators is not working. And they’re all climate-protected.

But Bloor station isn’t even close to ready for a new track 1. New pedestrian access tunnel(?), shift of the rail path and the track 1 overpass at Bloor to shift. Does Bloor need to be regraded?

But to be fair, that is a decades long-established neighbourhood that btw, has seen its share of disruption over the years (Allen Rd.). And, while maybe not a major destination in and of itself, Cedarvale will still see tons of folks as a transfer node to nearby destinations from Yorkdale and...

I would disagree. The picture here shows what is called the Great Hall East Wing. The Bay GO Concourse (upper level) is a totally different area, and actually at a different elevation to the East Wing. The area under the skylight and opening in the floor (picture foreground) is the Front Street...

    Thank you for that explanation.

I see. So my next question would be this: would it cause that much of an issue to go from 8 to 10 trains per hour through that stretch? Or would it make a difference that Go trains serving E. North would be using Track 1, closest to the tunnel work zone?

UP and Go trains pass each other around E. North station or the Humber River Valley all the time. Whether or not they are choreographed to do that and specifically not within the tunnel itself I couldn’t say. But isn’t the speed limit in the tunnel somewhat limited to allow trains to pass each...

I don’t understand why the 401/409 tunnel construction would prevent weekend trains on the Kitchener line. UP runs just the same.

But the Super Lo DD buses can get into Union Station. The 16 Hamilton Express runs majority if not all Super Lo’s The 34 & 40 Airport routes run through Yorkdale to the airport as well. I thought York Mills was the only major terminal left inaccessible to even the Super Lo buses

Both of the above replies are exactly what I was referring to. Thanks @Allandale25 & @Krypto98. ?

I don’t understand why they couldn’t run an hourly weekend schedule even as far as Mount Pleasant, and even extend the odd trip to Kitchener, given a similar timetable to the weekday midday schedule. Work on the 401/409 tunnel are off-corridor and the constraint with Etobicoke North and UP train...

If my math is generally right, there are currently some 2,328 total train trips in a 7 day week. (Yes I went through each schedule and counted!) Even going back to April 2019 as the paper suggests, 16% works out to be well over 300 weekly trips. I don't know where they could add that many trips...

Ok. So a thought on the new evening service to Brampton & points beyond. Couldn’t help but notice that getting off the train at Bramalea & looking for a bus connect to Bramalea City Centre, a) The 36B pulled in to the Bramalea Go bus terminal at the same time as the train, yet did not wait for...

“Financial close on the Guideway is expected for approximately Summer 2019, with construction to start in approximately Fall 2019 and be completed in approximately mid-2023. Construction on the public realm elements will start in approximately 2023 and last until approximately Fall 2024.” Four...

I disagree. If the plan is still to go 15 minute frequency all day, then the time to do them would be now, instead of waiting until after such time as current work gets finished. And then we’re talking about disrupting a then-established (hopefully) steady service with multiple heavy...
