GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Hmmm... The 2 subway stations are farther apart than you think. If one wanted to walk, you could just as easily do it on Bloor itself. And once people get used to the idea, the east end of the Dundas West subway platforms are actually pretty close to the Go/UPX station. So the new entrance...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

This is the link from Metrolinx concerning that area. http://www.metrolinx.com/en/regionalplanning/rer/rer_lsw.aspx In a nutshell from what I understand, there would be 15 minute two way all day electrified Union-Aldershot. All service beyond that of varying frequencies throughout the day to...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

So my question is: Why has this seemingly easy adjustment not yet been made? And why was it not instituted that way from the start?

I again reference the Kitchener Line as I throw this out there. Malton, Bramalea, Brampton and Mount Pleasant all feature different sets of bus connections to various final destinations ranging from Bolton through Brampton, including the 407 corridor, to Georgetown, Guelph and Kitchener...

Thanks for the response. I certainly hope it's something tangible along those lines.

Different topic, but does anyone have an idea of the work being done on the Barrie Line this weekend?

Isn't there like a 52 minute layover at Unionville off-peak? That would/should be enough time for trains to run in service to Mount Joy & back on the existing trackage instead of just sitting at Unionville. Similar to the Kitchener Line midday now trains pass each other at Malton and then run...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Agreed. I've actually taken in recent times to watching the corridor for freight traffic in the evenings and weekends and so far, I don't see a reason why hourly evenings and weekends service can't go in now. Why CN (if they are the villain here) would need three and four tracks through the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Hmmm... I'm no expert on this, just a casual observer and regular user of this line throughout any and all times of the day and week (midday, evenings & weekends). But CN has proven a willing partner in the past and, based on my own observations, I don't see the trackage between Bramalea and...

I'm still not clear as to the reasons for this service expansion falling off the table. Is it that CN is unwilling to share the track? Crew shortages? Lack of trains? Couldn't be lack of ridership? Something else?

I see. Didn't see the construction segment. Linked to the schedule directly from Transit Toronto. Thanks

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Just saw the special train schedule for The Caribbean Carnival tomorrow. I'm curious as to what would prompt the reduced service on the Barrie line's north end I.e. All trains originating and ending at Aurora Station with no train service further north. Don't all the trains come from the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Hmmm.. I wonder why trains aren't running up to Mount Joy. 15 minute turnaround and back again. That would be similar to the Kitchener Line running to Mount Pleasant. Trains pass each other between Malton and the end of the Metrolinx-owned territory just east of Bramalea (at optimum operation)...

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

In the meantime, no mention of evening or weekend hourly trains coming anytime soon.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Thank you for those answers. The NIMBY argument I buy only partially because I would think all the large parking garages planned might be more sight blocking. Ok. I would be thinking enclosed bridges, not open ones. Again, I only ask because overhead wouldn't necessarily involve shutting...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Maybe a stupid question here but why use the tunnels and not overpasses? Edit to add: And why isn't ML installing all of the tunnels at the same time since installation involves shutting the whole line down for multiple weeends at each station

New Stouffville Line train service is great news. Now there's more room for the ridiculous evening line ups for Georgetown & Bramalea bus riders at the Union Bus Terminal. Yes! :(

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Um, the Barrie Line is at 19 trips per day total, 10 southbound and 9 northbound, with 3 of each of those originating & 3 terminating at Barrie and the other 6 south and 7 north running to and from Aurora. So more like, to Barrie, 6, and to Aurora, 13.

Like Bramalea, with train connection to Union from there. Not in favour of connecting/ transferring to UP at Weston as a) Union is only 2 stops further down the line and b) sometimes I only need to get to Bloor, in which case the switch makes even less sense. Besides, RER is tentatively...
