Honestly, they need to redo that section ASAP. As a guy who goes there now and then to try the restaurants and go clubbing on that stretch of Jasper, it really is quite unsightly, especially when I'm showing around guests from smaller towns coming up to the big city.

    Municipal Politics

I wish more right-wingers would realize that pro-urbanism is pro-business. It was decades of car-dependent sprawl with high capital and maintenance costs (that could never pay themselves off) and a resulting decline of inner-city business that we got into this financial hole in the first place...

Never realized they were trying to recycle all the old building materials from the airport. I guess that’s also why the site prep seemed to take ages since the airport closed.

    LRT Expansion Planning

On the bright side, the dense areas of 97th street around Northgate will be well connected to the Metro Line Extension via the new active transportation corridor through Rosslyn. Then, you could link up the swaths of suburbs to the Castle Downs with good feeder bus service (which has always...

I thought based on the original renders that they would be doing that 🙁

    General Infill Discussion

Was perusing Google Maps when I noticed this interesting apartment development in Abbottsfield on what used to be parking lots. I suspect that this is another one of those developments that was only possible thanks to the removal of parking minimums. All-in-all, another win for more housing.

    Edmonton's Population

This includes 2018-2021. Remember how sluggish things were in Alberta back then?

    General Infill Discussion

All this development and yet some people on this site keep spouting doom and gloom about real estate here based on the lack of movement on downtown high-rises.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

Avonmore was a bad example for their analysis here. While it could have been skipped as a station when they built the Valley Line, the LRT was going to run through this area anyway so it was probably a concession to the residents of this area who would have their houses fronting a train...

    Capital Line LRT

Yeah, with all the empty land, it’ll be easy to build a temporary roadway and then trench Ellerslie Road.

That thing's as tall as my erection for it --- I mean, woah, that's some insane height for the area!

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Being able to connect seamlessly from anywhere on the Capital Line (the University in particular) to Oliver and all of its places to eat will be a huge boon for the Valley Line.

    New Zoning Bylaw

Watched the video by “Oh the Urbanity” and despite being a regular forum visitor, I was shocked by all the before/after footage. The density really just creeped in there without much stir, and that was pre-zoning bylaw. Fits with the recurrent theme in Edmonton of keeping things on the low and...
