    Toronto: a Fast Growing City?

While partly true, major infrastructure investments in Europe like public transit, etc, are a boon for lower income residents. The European Union has a much lower income disparity than even Canada, so public realm improvements benefit everyone.

I don't believe this. So we're willing to sacrifice a property Y+D square for this? For adma/Shocker, you haven't addressed the three critical complaints here: 1) Blank, mainly vertical walls that have an uncanny resemblance for the few remaining sections of the wall in Berlin, but to a much...

It beats a parking lot.... There are reasons to agree and disagree with what you said in general, but I'm not sure anyone would find this a lacking building in terms of character.

It's a pretty generic elevation drawing. I'd wait for a render before settling on an opinion. We'll see. The problem is that these complexes border on virtually no mid-rises. I'd like to see some 7-12 storey buildings (so far only 4s) on Duplex where 53 Division is and covering the block to...

    Toronto Toronto | Velocity at the Square | 122.52m | 40s | HNR | P + S / IBI

I really don't get the whole paying respect thing with this tower. I mean, you're putting up a huge building, decked in giant slabs of ugly material, and that's context? The only thing I see in this building is a wall, a barrier to the city. It's silly, it's stupid, and compared to what could be...

 Those first two I've never seen. Simply jaw-dropping.

    Toronto Toronto | First Canadian Place Rejuvenation | 298.08m | 72s | Brookfield | MdeAS Architects

I'm just hoping the tastefulness of the original Reichmann design. In a way, the cleanliness of the solid white (when it was clean) contrasting with the black resulted in a look that was at once Canadian and International. Hopefully the copper is done in a way that is befitting of one of the...

    Toronto Toronto | Velocity at the Square | 122.52m | 40s | HNR | P + S / IBI

Four Seasons is an all together good building. But it is the exception, not thr rule. I wouldn't even have a tiff about this, minus the huge slabs up the north sides. I mean, it doesn't respect any of the design of the building below (balconys poorly matched to window styles, etc). But those...

    Toronto Toronto | Velocity at the Square | 122.52m | 40s | HNR | P + S / IBI

Basically, D+S took it, ruining any sense of context, coherency, style, or class. The current design is utterly disgusting. Dundas Square in 20 years is only bound for even more disappointment.

Star: TTC row ends in charges, lawsuit

Police do make mistakes. Choking in any instance = not ok. Even that far this driver should not have a job. Choking and slamming the passenger's head around = assault bordering on attempted murder (provided proof that he was in incontrollable rage). It is as simple as that.

Star: TTC row ends in charges, lawsuit

Some TTC drivers have... attitudes. For every amazing 504 driver giving guided tours of, there's another, shall we say, not so kind bus driver out there. It's simply unprofessional, looks bad, and whatever the reasoning behind cases like this or any other, it's not the way Toronto should work...

    Toronto Toronto | MaRS Centre Phase 2 | 112.77m | 20s | Alexandria | B+H

True, but the whole tunnel effect would greatly enhanced by a streetwall at the College St. corner. Shangri-La is a great terminus, though (just like Queen's Park from the south).

    Toronto Toronto | MaRS Centre Phase 2 | 112.77m | 20s | Alexandria | B+H

I really hope this gets built. Besides the L Tower (in its previous form), and One Bloor, one would be hard pressed to find a building that contributes so significantly to the urban fabric of the core. University is desperately lacking the visual grandness of its importance within the city. This...

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

We won't get presto for a while. But I think the root issue with the TTCs situation is it's failure to capture the market at the edge of the city. Even though you destroy their profit model, since essentially your routes would run without you or not, they are still making money off you. If...

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

Edit: Whoops! Sorry, read the wrong column for that. Some bus routes though do exceed costs of $3.50 per rider, which is way more than the streetcars. It all depends on the route.

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

Yeah, that works.... if we were talking about new construction. Day to day services are another question. You would know that most subway construction would be subsidised, like Transit City, right? Except for actually hiring new drivers, the costs are close to diddily squat. And, besides, if we...

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

The problem with this is that you end up making public transit look even more unattractive to someone outside the core. If the costs of TTC ridership go up, what's the advantage of having a longer commute? All of your statements have some truth to them, but, even lacking a full, up-to-date...

Are they going to clad that concrete overhang just above the podium? It stands out like a sore thumb right now.

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

Maybe similar modes. I was under the impression that the cost of bus routes per capita were a fair bit higher than subway or streetcar, mostly due to economies of scale.
  20. N

    Ideas for funding the TTC?

That could work, but one has to consider ways that not only fund the TTC, but promote ridership too. Also there needs to be some rectifying between the cost to provide the service vs. actual revenues. Having an extensive network of bus routes is great but not when some of them are operating at...
