    Rob Ford's Toronto

I've enjoying reading some of the pro-Ford Facebook groups and comments in the news defending Ford. Most of them are "so what?" and "we all multi task from our cars." The same people defending him for distracted driving are the same people who are outraged when a cyclist goes through a stop...

Are you one of those Ford apologists? I'd be curious to know the percentage of Toronto citizens who complained about the Jarvis bike lanes that warranted discussion for their removal. It's very likely less than 0.01% of all citizens. Also, what percentage of all Toronto citizens complained...

From The Globe & Mail: Despite complaints, Ford praises garbage collection I find it interesting that with 1000+ complaints, Ford will still call something great or fantastic. It's funny that when it's something he likes, he won't acknowledge complaints. Yet if a dozen people complain about...

If whoever runs against Ford decides to use televised attack ads, they're going to need a 2 hour prime time special. Maybe it could be a telethon.... pledge some money to the opposing candidates.

Well said. The best case scenario for everyone is that the current situation fizzles out. Less violence is good for the communities involves and Ford's whacko statements will be long forgotten.

Regarding the bag fee... This article from the National Post has one of my all time favourite quotes, ever. Christy McCullen, Store Manager of Summerhill Market: Christy, you have no problem charing $7.99 for a pineapple but it sickens you that other stores charge 5 cents for a bag!?!?! That...

I've missed Queens Quay Karen. Maybe we'll get to meet her friends, Beaches Betty and Junction Jeremy.

On an unrelated note, these should be installed in Kensington Market and other parts of the city where street closures happen frequently. Roncesvalles, Spadina and St. Clair are currently set up in the best way possible to stop people from driving through open streetcar doors. However, there...

    Canadian flags in USA?

As my username may indicate, I grew up in Sarnia and thus, spent a lot of time in the US. For what it's worth, I've noticed Canadians seem to be more willing to fly the US flag then Americans are with the Canadian flag. I don't really notice anymore now that I don't live in a border town.

Well the obvious cat is out of the bag in a big way. Doug Ford says he will run for Ontario PCs if Dalton McGuinty calls an election Great, so you've been using you and your brother's position to essentially campaign for an MPP position for the past year and a half? That sends a positive...

I remember that really well. They're even immortalized in a great episode of Trailer Park Boys when J-Roc is gankin' groceries. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_0crpt_9Lg

Next time you're in Yorkville, buy a few things from Whole Foods. You'll see paper bags at the check out aren't so bad. Our top scientists have developed the technology to add handles to paper bags now. Costco has no bags any type and they seem to be doing pretty well... their Queensway...

Don't try to turn your pro-Ford centric opinions into some sort of political prediction. Today's vote is a good thing. There are no bags of any type at Costco and Whole Foods only uses paper bags. I don't hear any of their regular customers complaining about the lack of plastic bags. I don't...

Speaking of political rabble rousing, I see the king of all rabble rousing, Matthew McGuire of the 'Toronto Taxpayers Coalition' is up to his old tricks. From CityTV: http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/local/article/207535--plastic-bag-fee-illegal-toronto-taxpayers-coalition...

I really doubt any of the money on the Cut the Waist website is going to charity. Remember at the beginning you couldn't choose charities with the words gay, lesbian or bicycle in them? It was pretty clear from the beginning this was a poorly thought out way of improving the mayor's image...

This is becoming a classic tale of Ford's tenure as mayor. A councillor accuses Rob Ford of something and Doug (Holyday and/or Ford) jumps in to defend the mayor. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/toronto/carroll-accuses-mayor-of-not-showing-up-at-the-office/article2440321/ It's...

And the fact this stupid rescind the bag fee thing does absolutely nothing to make this a better city. Has Ford had any ideas about actually doing anything productive or do we just have re-hash everything the previous administration did? The guy talks about wasting taxpayers money... how much...

How is 5 cents a nuisance? I keep some cloth bags and 2 shopping bins in the trunk of my car. I also keep some cloth bags at the front door of my house. I ride my bike a lot and keep one in my backpack. I've made it as convenient as possible for myself. I buy 5 or 6 plastic bags a year when...
