Stampede has been using that lot for over a decade (staff/etc parking during 10 day event). I wouldn't be surprised if it gets fully paved once the arena construction actually begins if there are no other foreseeable plans for the parcel at that time.

Owning the building is not a good thing...no property tax. eventual demolition costs. Insurance while in a flood plain (sounds likely they'll self-insure)... The clients of the convention centre are paying to use it...what's the relevance of their profitability? Booking a space at the centre...

I think 6th Ave makes the most sense for a ton of reasons (connections on each end, proximity to 7th, etc). At which point 3rd could stay or go...but it's absurd to take it out for no real reason
