There is an 8 acre parcel on SW corner of 77th and 9 Ave (a couple blocks east of the strip mall discussed above). As of a ~week ago the one big house on it was being prepped to be moved (maybe gone by now - looked like quite the process where the cut the L shaped house in half). Presumably this...

Agree with all your ideas, but that accident isn't really evidence of anything more than one incredibly reckless driver

Fair, I'm guilty of looking through the lens of my own use-case here.

There's a reason 3rd Ave was chosen as a DETOUR...it's the next closest option to the river path. River path is about 250 meters longer, while 3rd has a stop sign and 8 traffic lights. It would only take 60-90 seconds of stationary time before the river path is faster, even at a slow cruising...

I'll play with a very quick drawing. Retain plan as current but turn north from Beltline up 1st St SW using existing underpass. Expropriate the parking lot I'm cutting through (assessed value of just those surface lots is about $14M, so probably slightly cheaper than the current condo...

You're right that it's not all bad and could certainly be worse, and we're no different than most north american cities...but I'd argue the biggest problem is absolute car dependence. The blue and red lines work really well as long as your destination is along one of those lines. Our sprawl and...

Pumphouse Theatre literally poisoned the city's water supply to build an impenetrable toxic moat for their fiefdom. I mean, how else did the creosote get there? Bond villain stuff! Seriously though, Stampede has certainly under-delivered in many regards, but the complaints here some...

Seems a little disingenuous when you have to cut in and out of the new developments that were not precluded by Stampede to try to blame empty lots on them...is Stampede really the reason Erlton developments stopped where they did? What about the lovely riverfront south of Elbow River Casino -...

If there was ever a golden opportunity to move on from chuckwagons it was after those 2 missed years. Maybe after the next multi-horse massacre. It's an ag festival, so you'll still need the barns. About half of the interior of the track is pretty well used for staging during the rodeo...

IIRC (and I could definitely be wrong), the connection was more likely to come through the new Rockland Park community (ie. up the pathway below/parallel to Stoney that has a bridge over the train tracks and then a tunnel to the north side of Nose Hill Dr, then west along there). Your route...

I've never been to Munich, but I wonder if you're overselling those grounds? It looks like a massive parking lot without the parking...or maybe more accurately an airport without the planes or a terminal. It certainly looks decent from the outside being surrounded by lots of trees and presumably...

Stampede has relocated a ton of operations stuff from 14 Ave (just north of Saddledome) and what is now Enmax Park over to the south edge of Ramsay (25 Ave and Dartmouth Road). Doing so required an expensive bridge across the Elbow River. I haven't been to Oktoberfest, but I suspect the...

I used to wonder about that, but I'll be very surprised if it happens. The OBCR interchange is part of the south segment, which has the Oct 2024 deadline. I suspect the Burnco yard to the NW of the interchange will still play an important role in completing the rest of the leg...they could...

Conspiracy take: the proponents simply have a better grift relationship with Danielle's UCP than they did with Kenney's, and are finding some more immediate ways to exploit it through these new studies...

Stampede has been using that lot for over a decade (staff/etc parking during 10 day event). I wouldn't be surprised if it gets fully paved once the arena construction actually begins if there are no other foreseeable plans for the parcel at that time.

Owning the building is not a good thing...no property tax. eventual demolition costs. Insurance while in a flood plain (sounds likely they'll self-insure)... The clients of the convention centre are paying to use it...what's the relevance of their profitability? Booking a space at the centre...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I think 6th Ave makes the most sense for a ton of reasons (connections on each end, proximity to 7th, etc). At which point 3rd could stay or go...but it's absurd to take it out for no real reason

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

    1. The convention centre doesn't really fund any private equity 2. In 35 years the Stampede won't threaten to leave if the city doesn't pay for another new convention centre

Were there more images of 17th than the one tweet with 3 pics? 14th/15th ave have bike lanes (IIRC its getting consolidated to one of them?) - because of the street orientation, it's only about a half block to 15th from 17th (16th does not even exist east of 7th St SW). Not requiring an...
