The name really doesn't matter - over time it's peoples association with it that does. Do we criticize High Park for it's relatively dumb name? I think what's throwing people off is the 'the' in the name, Bentway Park sounds like any other park named after some random person.

This is a bit off topic - but does anyone know what's going on in the Scotiabank tower podium right now? I was walking through the path today to avoid the rain, and the entire thing was being gutted.

Well, hopefully the Valumart folks can talk to Loblaws. This area could definitely use a full-sized grocery store, and merging these two would definitely go a long way in relieving the problem. In 5 years this'll be one of the densest neighbourhoods in the city.

Do we know if the interior will be completely overhauled as well? Many of the stores seem dated / in need of reno's right now. Also: is the market fresh staying? It seems weird to have 2 loblaw based grocery stores inside the same building.

I'm guessing this'll end up being some sort of experimental Loblaws / Shoppers hybrid, or maybe the Loblaws version of WholeFoods with all that timber going in. They probably designed a standard shoppers in 2013, loblaws got ahold of shoppers sometime in 2014, which probably caused a redesign -...

Architects need to stop making glass canopies - they always end up covered in dirt inside a week. A wood soffit never hurt anyone.

Theatre Park at the ground level is great - how it's related to this project - or lizards - is beyond me.

Cost estimates have no doubt been done - but it's the tender prices that really matter in the end. Those prices can only be calculated once you have a nearly finished set of drawings - you might know potential suppliers - but without any details or structural drawings - you don't really know...

Until the SPA has been approved, nothing is set in stone. A requested shift by the city at ground level could conceivably cause ripples throughout a project - I've seen it happen a thousand times. Once the SPA has been approved by the city, the massing has essentially been zip locked. Although...

    Toronto Toronto | OCAD U: 100 McCaul | 39.4m | 9s | OCADU | Morphosis

The Alsop addition works because it's above a heritage(ish?) property, slapping on a DS glazed box really ruins the aesthetic along McCaul. I think a better way forward with a renovation would be to have the school address Grange Park - a new grand glazed entry to the park could do a lot of good.

Most projects go through the DRP twice from what I remember - once at the early stages, and once around SPA. This project has a long way to go before it's settled in stone. I mean - the whole purpose of a site plan application is to get approvals for site conditions (height / setbacks / etc.).

This thing looks like a lizard gobbling up people. Let's hope it gets a serious redesign before we see this monstrosity on our shores.

I really like the latest iteration of the towers - though I'm hoping they'll do more to address the podium in the next round of drawings. It'd be awesome if they could bring back a little of that cloud language that the original proposal had. Also: any idea when this is heading to the DRP?

Anyone have any insight as to what's actually happening here? The shopper's has been shut down for at least a year - and there's been almost no progress on site.

There's definitely height restrictions in this area - the city has a map of it, if anyone's good at digging up information.

Can we all just petition to have Oxford take over the Eaton Centre? That banner is killing me.

    Charles-Hayden Parking Garage (+2s) COMPLETE

I'm betting it's just an addition to the existing structure - you'd see one of those development application signs on the building if anything else was going to occur. If this was going to be a condo - there'd be no sense in closing the garage until a development application for the site was...

That's definitely the cheapest looking All Saints I've ever seen. I'm guessing they're just testing out the Waters before making a larger investment - though they're definitely not making a great first impression with that.

    Toronto Toronto | Adagio | 85m | 26s | Menkes | Giannone Petricone

I think this is an overall win. The restoration of the entire historic building is a rarity in this city. The north facing facade will also help to reduce the overall dumpy feeling of Asquith Ave. I think the podium could be a tad higher - to match the roofline of the historic property. It'll...
