    Calgary International Airport

Still no numbers for August on YYC’s website. :(

    Calgary | Calgary Event Centre | 36.85m | 11s | CSEC | HOK

I’m at the point I just to see it get built.

    Calgary International Airport

I checked yyc’s website today and still no passenger stats for August. I know three different groups of people who went to Europe this past month, and two different couples going to Italy this month. So many people have been going to Europe and Tokyo on these direct flights since they came out...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It’s a great idea but don’t propose that to the adjacent communities or you’ll have an angry mob at your door.

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

Someone mentioned in another thread that it was labour shortage, but I’m betting it’s also materials shortage. The modern 5/1 that we see in Calgary is being built everywhere in NA and Europe, and many are using these same materials.

Is retail traffic moving away from the +15 and onto popular streets?

A group of us were recently talking about 17th Ave and other strips that have patios, such as Inglewood, Mission, Steven Avenue, etc. Something we all noticed is that businesses in the +15 seem to be struggling, with many of them closing, and many of them not being very busy, while outdoor...

    Calgary | Kensington Manor | 34m | 9s | Amble Ventures | NORR

Ooops, it is 7 indeed. I think what I’m remembering is the number of floors are higher, but the height was similar.

    Calgary | Kensington Manor | 34m | 9s | Amble Ventures | NORR

The opposition for this one was stupid. There was already an 11 floor building there for years, and the new one is only 9 floors. I don’t know what the height difference is but it can’t be much.

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

As a population stats nerd I approve of this thread 😎 I won’t make any long range predictions other than the existing order of the top 6 will be the same. If housing starts are anything to go by population growth of the top 6 cities this year will be the same as last year.

TBH I’m happy they’re building the third tower. Podium sucks, but at this point the podium is built anyways might as well add another tower and some more residence in that area.

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

My numbers are from memory only, and from looking at some maps a few years back ~2010. My uncle used to work for the Alberta government, and he had these huge maps in his garage that were like 6’ x 8’, etc.. He had various ones of Calgary and Edmonton which included the surrounding areas and I...

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

Since the beginning of the 20th century, Edmonton was always the biggest metro until the 2001 census. Edmonton was typically between 25 % and 50% bigger until the 70s. Around 1970 Edmonton was 25% bigger ~500k to Calgary’s ~400k, but Calgary made gains through the 70s and trailed by around 40K...

    Calgary International Airport

It would be a first! I’m confident we’ll beat 2019’s numbers, for I’m waiting to see what 2924 looks like. Will we see a dip in numbers after people satisfy their pent up travel urges?
  14. Beltline_B

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

Jan Reimer lol there’s a name from the past. At the time she was quite a progressive mayor, probably too progressive for her time, as I do remember near the end of her term before she lost the election she was taking a lot of heat for being anti-business, and in some cases, she was. I might be...

    Calgary | Shaganappi Multi-Residential | 20.6m | 6s | Advent | Gravity Architecture

This is a good solid project for the location, I wonder what kind of opposition it’ll get?

Fingers crossed this is going ahead.

    Calgary International Airport

Here are the most recent numbers from YYC, showing Q1 and Q2. As we can see YYC is still steamrolling along. We still have a shot at topping 2019 numbers.
