The diagram shows Mirvish-Gehry West and East at 305m and 275m, but this is out of date, their currently planned heights have been increased to 329m and 301.6m. The tallest Union Park tower is shown as being a bit taller than Mirvish-Gehry East, so 306m looks about right (assuming that the...

GTA leads North American list of lowest office vacancy rates A new report indicates that the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) has the lowest office vacancy rate in North America due in large part to a surge in interest from technology companies looking for space. This, this, a thousand times this. Outdoor malls might make sense in California or other sunny locations, but they are a terrible idea for a place like the GTA. Half the year, you have to wade through snow, slush or just cold weather to get from one store to another. Plus it's simply more of a...

True. But it also doesn't automatically equate to WORSE architecture.

Wow, quite the straw-man there. Speaking for myself, height is only one of a number of qualities I look for in a proposed downdown skyscraper, along with design, context, and burden on infrastructure. But ALL ELSE BEING EQUAL, a reduction in height is still a net negative for me.

No, the figure appears to be the same size as the people on the sidewalks or on the western podium. Although it's a slightly different shape than the undoubted human figures.

Yep, wall to wall towers. And to think that the construction in this district is really just getting under way. The term "Manhattanization" tends to be thrown around too readily, but in this case (and also with Southcore) it definitely applies.

I absolutely do NOT want the city approving or rejecting proposals based on aesthetic grounds. This would introduce a hugely subjective metric, based on whether the review board members "like the appearance" of a project. The opportunity for corruption would be massive. Not to mention that...

    Toronto Toronto | 320 Bay Modernization | ?m | 18s | Menkes | B+H

If the render is accurate, the building would be around 140m tall. That does appear rather short for the location. On the other hand, given the quite restricted lot size, it's not bad. I wonder why the choice was made to have a large portion of the floor space hang over 304 Bay, instead of...

Huh. All these years, and I never knew that. I guess it was just the larger aircraft (i.e. 737 passenger jets) that stopped landing at Dryden Airport. I used to fly those several times a year to and from Dryden, back in the 1980s and 1990s.
