    Property taxes

That's kind of the point. The government was incompetent/corrupt. EDIT: Not that I'm even for communism. In fact, my dream economy is probably the furthest away from centrally planned you could get.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

I might be able to accept Thompson's loss if it means Smitherman's elected. It's just unfortunate that she has the best platform by far, and probably the only thing stopping her from the big top 3 is media coverage; Smitherman and Ford are big gunners, while the rest are councillors. The only...

    Toronto needs more 300m+ Towers

^^ Unfortunately, it isn't much different here. Condo prices in Toronto are just phenomenal, and there's hardly enough units that your regular person can live comfortably in. The best contenders are definitely the apartment blocks that dot the inner suburbs, but open spaces are far and few...

    Property taxes

So just let people's lives swing violently because a few people screwed up? Many people, Americans especially, have had entire years essentially taken away from them through this recent recession, and that's all okay? Actually, not really. Most communist economies failed because they weren't...

    Toronto needs more 300m+ Towers

And I'll agree with this. Sticking low to mid rise buildings into the suburbs would be a very, very good thing. But even then, I think mid-rises would work well, and even the kind of high rise that's being built around cityplace and the waterfront. But a 200 m + building is just unneeded.

    September 11th: Real or Fraud?

Kamuix, you can't respond to a grasping allegation in anything but "you're wrong and totally pulled that out of your ass." If you presented actual real evidence or information rather than argumentative fallacies and random accusations, then you might get the response that you want. But for the...

    Toronto needs more 300m+ Towers

Not really... Firstly, just because we aren't building skyscraper condos doesn't mean we're falling behind in "high density" or "citybuilding" or whatever you'd want to call it. I don't understand why we'd want a tall building when we could build 3 or 4 medium-sized buildings that give...

    Toronto needs more 300m+ Towers

I don't get it, why does the skyline need to be taller? I would've thought that it'd be much better to build lower buildings further out through the city, so we can get dense living in places outside of downtown.

    Deamalgamation for Toronto and Hamilton?

As is the story with all things these days.
  10. S

    Deamalgamation for Toronto and Hamilton?

The city state of Toronto? I'd say that the two cities should be brought back down to their smaller sections (maybe rejig a couple boundaries,) but the entire region of the GTA or maybe even the GGH should go under one large government. Not a province, but a step up from smaller city councils.

Eglinton LRT- Skytrain Beams Vs. Median Right-of-Way

So we're not to be building elevated tracks on Eglinton (which would easily half the price of a subway,) because Eglinton's supposed to turn into this nice vibrant pedestrian-oriented area? Newsflash: Eglinton as an arterial road has no chance of becoming a Bloor or Queen street, even with all...

    Toronto Party Transportation Plan

^^ Not to mention that the bridge would most probably still be under the condo skyline which would block resident's view anyways. I'd think that the bridge would only be 2 or 3 times as high as the Gardiner and rail corridor are now. Starting at Roncesvales and then slowly rising up to peak at...

Eglinton LRT- Skytrain Beams Vs. Median Right-of-Way

How are elevated tracks create barriers? I guess you've disregarded the elevated systems throughout almost every other major city in the world, which don't seem to tear communities apart. Granted, I bet if the TTC wasn't paying attention, they could very well screw up monumentally, but then...

    September 11th: Real or Fraud?

*Sigh* That picture, in order. First. We can't say that Bin Laden organized the 9/11 attacks. Obviously he's the head of Al-Quaida, a terrorist organization, but it's like wondering why they persecuted SS officials for their war crimes rather than Hitler himself. Second. Do you know what...
  15. S

    Toronto Party Transportation Plan

Certainly not. We don't need more highways.
  16. S

    Toronto Party Transportation Plan

I may have said it before, but I stand by the fact that the bridge/viaduct would be far, far better out in Humber Bay, if and when that area gets developed further (I give it 20 or 30 years to be a big line of residential towers.) You could viaduct the Gardiner/rail line from about Roncesvales...

Don't you know? They're all in on the conspiracy too!

    Rossi promises traffic tunnel

I was actually thinking of this too. If only we could somehow get Thomson ahead in the race. For the candidate which I think at least has by far the best plan for the city, she's painfully low in the polls. It would appear that there's little hope.

    Rossi promises traffic tunnel

Which is really a sad thing. As nfitz said, that amount of money would get well over 100 km of subway, enough for Toronto to at least make up it's transit debt. But instead, he's proposing a single highway. Great thinking guys.
