Save the trees, pedestrianize every street inside the U now

By the time the Ontario Line reaches capacity, it would be time to construct another subway line. The trains should be able to match the Yonge Line's current capacity and we can all agree that it is way past time to build more lines into the downtown core. Only once we've totally maxxed out our...

And then when the demolishing of Osgoode inevitably goes off schedule people like you decry Metrolinx’s incompetence and ask why building transit in this city takes so long and is so expensive. Oh and not to mention the disruption that comes with cutting Line 1 in half for 10+ years and...

Doesn’t matter how big the entrance building is, as long as that access shaft has to be dug, those trees will have to be moved or cut down The existing station box is what Metrolinx is trying to avoid by putting the access shaft westward. Metrolinx is trying to learn from their previous...

Its not a strawman if I'm directly quoting you as emphasizing the importance of these trees in particular. If it wasn't those trees at Osgoode hall, it'd be those mature trees at Campbell House or those mature trees in Moss park or those mature trees in Jimmy Simpson etc etc.

You with the Motte : Umm actually it’s not about the trees. It’s about (aesthetics, community consultation, heritage etc.) Ward8 with the Bailey : Actually it is about the trees and these trees in specific!!!

Ok then how would you stage the construction and what would you do?

Regardless of where the entrance ultimately ends up being we will still have to dig a keyhole shaft to excavate the station cavern, extract the TBMs and mining spoils somewhere. So are you going to move Campbell house again, Demolish the Bank of Canada building or demolish the theatre? Keep in...

Pointing out that the land belongs to a different elite institution doesn’t make the base point less wrong. To be this upset when 7 trees are being removed so that we can build infrastructure for the masses is quite revealing. Pure Nimbyism.

The Toronto left rallying to delay a public transit project in order to protect some trees on the grounds of Canada’s most elite law school is such a funny and revealing moment.

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Those trees are G is very hard to build and F is also hard to build on. So yes you can keep the trees. It just makes the project more vulnerable to delays and increases costs Read the report and you'll find that its either option A or option B and there are many trees that'd have to be cut...

Heres a report from the city on various options for construction. They almost all involve cutting down those trees because the station Entrance is not the only thing that has to be accomplished here. To construct the new station cavern, ML will need a mineshaft. And unless ML is going to be...

What are the odds that when they redo these platforms for level boarding that ML bothers re-installing the radiant heating system? I guess that depends on whether they tear up the existing platforms or just pour concrete on top.

People can walk the extra 200m to the next closest stop. The faster and more frequent the train, the more likely they’ll do it
  15. MrGoose

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Ok, we cut out some of the closest stations in the eastern section, and construct flyovers/unders at the big intersections to grade separate the line for cheap(er). From east to west we should Remove the left turn from eastbound Eglinton@ ionview, have a protected left/u turns at Kennedy...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Just elevate the East. We have the ROW carved out already. Cut out some of the really closely spaced stations.
  17. MrGoose

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

We did not save any money or time. Even if @JSF-1 and the planners are right, that the Ellington Crosstown will never exceed 5k passengers per direction per hour, we still could have saved money (either in construction costs or future improvement costs) by using high floor subway trains instead...
  18. MrGoose

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

For the same tunnel width, a high floor subway is always going to have greater capacity than a low floor lrt. No standing space being taken up by wheel wells. So if you were going to construct expensive station boxes and grade separate half the line by digging subway-width tunnels, then you...
